Mitt Romney: I

Team Romney released an e-mail to supporters and posted an item on its website titled “Missing: Newt’s Freddie Mac Papers: $1.6 million reward,” poking fun at the reported sum Gingrich made working at Freddie.

Gingrich pressured Romney to release his tax returns, not the favour is returned.

Was he in a decision making position? Can Romney prove that Gingrich's work led to the housing meltdown? Good luck trying to prove that. The man was a consultanton on public policy. So Romney is basically trying to make a negative connection between what Gingrich did and the public's hate for Freddie Mac. So where is Romeny about all the real players in Congress that actually voted on and passed the laws that led to the meltdown?
In the end, Romney's biggest fault is that he isn't conservative, and the American people know it. I don't know it I'd vote for Gingrich or one of the other candidates, but I do know that Romney would be probably the only one I'd have to hold my nose while doing so if he were all we had. Even Ron Paul with his faults would be substantially preferrable over Romney.

Whether or not he was technically a lobbyist, it's pretty obvious that Gingrich was paid by Freddie Mac to advise them on how to improve their position on the Hill. And of course a big part of it is simply branding. It gives them leverage if they can say that they have Newt Gingrich on their payroll.

Is that anything like Michelle Obama receiving over $200K a year from the local hospital to use her prestige to try to convince poor people to go wait in line at the cheapo health clinic rather than go to the hospital's emergency room where they couldn't pay but couldn't be turned down. Is that what you mean by "branding?"

But you are right about Gingrich, that is exactly what Gingrich do. So did Santorum after his defeat in re-election.

Well, duh, that's what Gingrich was trying to do with Romney and his tax returns as well. It's not like Gingrich can prove that Romney did something illegal with his money, or how the money has any relevance his governing of the country. Didn't stop Gingrich from pressuring Romney to release his tax returns for political points.

If that's true, how is it bad to direct people away from A&E if they aren't in an emergency?
