[h=1]Christie: Gingrich an "embarrassment" to GOP[/h]

The GOP has become a seriously dysfunctional family. Let's see, the Gov that everyone was begging to run is now calling the man of hour (Newt) an embarrassment.

And Romney is going to release his tax records this week??

What next, Santorum's is going to get caught creating 'santorum'.... (google it)

New Jersey Governor and Mitt Romney surrogate Chris Christie went after Newt Gingrich on Sunday, calling the newly-crowned South Carolina primary winner an "embarrassment" to the Republican party."Newt Gingrich has embarrassed the party over time. Whether he'll do it again in the future I don't know, but Governor Romney never has," Christie said in an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press.""Sometimes past is prologue," he said. The outspoken governor conceded that Saturday's Palmetto State primary, in which Gingrich trounced Romney by 13 points, was "clearly disappointing" to the former Massachusetts governor. But he said he still thought Romney would prevail in Florida, which holds its primary contest on January 31.

Chris Christie is right, Newt is a stealth loose cannon--just when you think he's got it under control, he'll suggest poor people should eat their young if they fail the food stamp drug test.

Is that why competition is a good thing? Someone always comes out the loser. This might be more a case of sour grapes than anything else.

Its a democratic process. If the republicans want newt that's what they will get.

The Narratives are killing them...

Romney -- He pays less in taxes than you and is worth $250Mil. He got rich gutting companies and putting people out of work.

NOTE TO FAR-RIGHTIES: I understand that private equity and venture capitalist don't always set out to gut a company. And I support free markets. I'm just commenting on the attacks coming from... the right.

Newt -- Cheater, disgraced congressman, wanted open marriage.

It wasn't until the final month of the 2008 election that Sarah started shouting, "palling around with terrorists." By that point, the mythical + factual narrative had already sunk it. The negative stuff just made her and McCain look stupid. McCain had to correct some old lady at town hall when she called Obama an Arab. (long a sound)

The negative narratives for the GOP candidates are killing them. No independents are moderates are going to want to touch these guys when they get done with each other.

Christie is wrong. Gingrich is a perfect example of his party.

Somebody really wants that VP nod from Romney.

The VP nod is actually what everybody want. Obama wins and they you're set up for 2016.

Unless they pick another Palin.

...and then we will watch the democratic process proceed to the next level, where the Republican favorite will be shellacked.

If it was Newt against Barry...who do you think would win?

What type of thread is this?

Why, yes it is.

If only Obama's administration were as transparent as Hazl's posting.

Barry kicks News ass in a no holds barred grudge match, in a steel cage.

I see my new stalker-troll has arrived.

Aaaaand, thats is a personal attack. Triangle targeting engaged Captain. Mind your manners.

Considering you won't vote for a GOP candidate in your lifetime, I don't see the problem with the competition here. Remember the Democratic primary season in 2008? That sure was pretty.

Maybe Christie is going after the sane conservative vote and hoping for a nod at a brokered convention.

Newt's style of divide and conquer won't fly in a general election. He's so tough talking that he's used this primary to burn any bridges he could've used for reaching out for votes. He's only good for rallying the base. He'd get nowhere in a general election with that. No where's at all.

It's going to be a brokered convention.

Newt will fight tooth and nail to get something, a cabinet seat maybe. Romney will have to hold his nose and give it to him--which push away even more independents.

George Will and others have been watching the GOP primary process with dismay. It's a political Hindenburg.

Christie should butt out. Newt is by far the best candidate for the GOP. The establishment wants to push Romney on the party, but thankfully the people aren't buying it. Go NEWT!

You sound exactly like Rush Limbaugh from 4 years ago talking about the democratic nomination.

Gingrich as a front runner is an embarrassment to the GOP, but so is Romney, the guy Christie Endorsed.

Maybe Christie and the other members of the corrupt GOP establishment may realize that the GOP voters are not endorsing Gingrich, but rejecting Romney. A rich Wall Street establishment Massachusetts moderate who tries to convince voters by lying that he is a Reagan conservative.

As someone who is inside the Democratic political structure, I have not met one single person within it who believes that anyone other than Romney has a chance to beat Obama. Our dreams would come true if the GOP picked Gingrich.

But do go on believing what you want to believe. If that helps you pick Gingrich as your standard bearer, so much the better.

The completely beautiful thing about the current composition of the GOP is that we Democrats can look right into your eyes and truthfully tell you that we are afraid of Romney and you still reject him in favor of a right wing clown. Its perfect.

I think the democrats fear Romney, because he feels like one of them. Many times in politics, especially outside the US where the gap is smaller, you will see people from the moderate right join the left for political gain. Romney probably would have joined the Democrats if it suited his interests.

But the Democrat establishment do not understand the average voter just like the Republican establishment. Or they would not have pushed through John Kerry. John Kerry and Mitt Romney are nearly the same guy.

Although he is popular among somewhat educated moderates with few moral values, I don't think Romney has very much more chance than Ron Paul to win the election, because
  1. He has a lot of dodgy deals in Bain capital and is a too big defender of capitalism in any form, which will be used against him. Have you watched "When Mitt Romney comes to town"? It is not entirely correct, but that doesn't matter because most voters are uninformed. Also, better videos will come out in the general election. This will hurt Romney among the most important group among the GOP. White poor voters.
  2. He is massive flip flopper, hurting among anyone who cares about integrity
  3. He is boring, and uninspiring hurting him among the voters who don't care
  4. He has baggage, such as his tax returns and that he avoids all interviews. Which will hurt him among everyone.
The reason Republicans are rejecting Romney has nothing to do with what Democrats say. It is because GOP voters do not consider Romney to be one of their own. No wonder, in many ways Romney is the antithesis of what most GOP voters stand for. Most GOP voters are uneducated social conservatives, who believe in hard work, good values, and hate unethical elitists, but they don't just despise the elitists. They also despise Wall Street and corporate raiders. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the Democrat establishment like Wall Street more than the average GOP voter.

Evangelicals voted for Gingrich because they hate Mormons more than they hate Obama. Truly that is the bottom line. I'm thankful though. I'm hoping that Newt carries the momentum into Florida and wins there also!
