Christie: Gingrich an "embarrassment" to GOP

One is a philosophy and the other is a political party. If it hasn't become evident that there is a difference in this election, than you (collectively) are blind. Romney has been roundly lambasted by conservatives for his non-conservative positions. Thats why his dismal support by conservatives during the 'crucial' primaries

In fairness, as has Newt.

You fail to realize that the GOP has many sides and factions.

Ann Coulter, a very loud (and annoying) conservative voice, expressed what many GOPers think about Newt: “Newt Gingrich is the least conservative of these candidates and the least electable!” Coulter exclaimed. “Fantastic but the South Carolina audience loves when he yells at John King for making a perfectly legitimate opening question.”

Evangelicals voted for Gingrich because they hate Mormons more than they hate Obama. Truly that is the bottom line. I'm thankful though. I'm hoping that Newt carries the momentum into Florida and wins there also!

I dunno. When I lived in Gulf Breeze, FL and attended a southern baptist church in Midway, I was told, from the pulpit, that Mormanism is a cult against the teachings of Christ. It was mocked, made fun of, de-humanized and slandered at every turn.
And this came from the pulpit as it came from the pews.

Good luck in Florida Mitt. You just THINK you met bigotry. Yankee, suit, mormon, slick...

Get a grouper sandwich. A pressed cuban and some coffee too. Enjoy the trip.

To be fair, Coulter is a strong supporter of Chris Christie and Mitt Romney. For one conservative's opinion on her opinions:

Ann Coulter Could Not Be More Wrong - Kevin McCullough - Townhall Conservative

Don't get me wrong....there are plenty of evangelicals in Florida, but they don't control the party like they do in South Carolina. Your characterization of evangelical hatred for mormons is absolutely accurate though.

I don't know if this has something to do with my being a Marine or what, but, I can't trust anyone's opinion when they are overweight. How am I going to believe anything Chris Christie says? How can I know that he has my best interests in mind? How does he do anything to the best of his ability if he can't even contain his own waistline? The guy can't keep HIMSELF in order, much less advise or lead anyone else through keeping a gov't in order. I know a lot of people will probably view that as bigoted or whatever but I don't care. Obesity equals excess to me. Excess equals not conservative. If he can't be conservative with his food portions, how can he be conservative with anything else? I will always view the guy as a joke until he makes a conserted effort to control his weight.

So I take it that you support the President's efforts to help teach children proper nutrition and physical fitness?

You mean the First Lady's efforts? Frankly, I don't take much interest in First Lady's, of any POTUS, pet projects they start. I don't know much about it. It is a good idea to promote nutrition and physical fitness though.

"Once a Marine, always a Marine" huh? How many reasons can you find to state you were a Marine?
You message about obesitywould persuade no one.

Romney could get past that just as JFK got pasts being Catholic back when that was a huge negative. The problem with Romney is his fear of overstatement and gaff, so he is seen a weak milk toast. Republicans want a warrior, not the candidate with the most correct cautious talking points.

Ann Coulter is a joke.

But there is a huge amount of difference, between Romney and Gingrich. Gingrich may be a liar, and has flip flopped as well, but he is a conservative. You will not find statements from Gingrich stating that he is a progressive like Romney. Gingrich has also fronted conservative policies in the 1990s.

What have Romney done that is Conservative? He said even himself that he was a progressive back in 2002, and that he supported cap and trade, abortion, pro gay, anti Reagan, etc. The reason Romney is unable to get support is because he wasn't a conservative before he started running for President. Gingrich is also a liar, but at least he is a conservative. So people think he is the lesser of two evils.

Ann Coulter is a joke.

I would say she's a hack political writer marketing herself to the GOP base. But, she's not 'joke' in terms of # of readers.

Well, except for his date with Nancy P.

Remember, when they were going to combat Global Warming together...

Cap and trade is conservative. -- Market-driven self-regulation.

Reagan may have talked a social con game, but he let the states alone on those issues.

After all that, I have no clue who you support. Bottom line, the GOP should have found better candidates.

Thread: Christie: Gingrich an "embarrassment" to GOP

Gingrich's campaign success is based solely on his oratory skills during the televised debates.

The question remains as to why those who have worked with him in the past are not flocking to endorse him?

Glenn Beck also got a lot of # of readers/viewers.

Just because you believe in global warming does not mean you are not a conservative. I believe in global warming, believe measures should be adopted, and I am a conservative.

However, by heart Gingrich is a conservative, while Romney is not. Gingrich has worked all his life implementing conservative platforms, and he was successful in 1990s. Romney was a Massachusetts moderate , which is liberal everywhere else. He implemented liberal policies in Massachusetts such as gun control, pro choice measures, universal health care, etc. He even said that he was a progressive. That is what makes Gingrich different from Romney even though Gingrich may not agree with the GOP platform on all issues.

True, but that is not the view in the US.

I support Huntsman, and since he dropped out, then I support Obama. I can take a candidate who is more conservative than I am, but I can't take a liar.

There are so many GOPers flocking to warn the rest of the party what a total train wreck Newt is.

I think Fox News holds to the Reagan 11th Commandment and doesn't air the negative GOP bashing Newt stuff.

I would have very much liked to hear more from John Huntsman.

There's no "were a Marine", I am a Marine. I am an active duty Marine presently serving. I wasn't trying to persuade anyone. I was merely stating my opinion. If someone happens to agree, good for them. Obesity demonstrates a lack of control to me. I don't want anyone leading me that shows a lack of control in their life. If the guy made an effort to lose the weight, I would be fine with him. But he doesn't. He proudly carries his enormous girth around and expects reporters, voters, etc to accept it and think it is no issue. It is an issue, at least with me. I don't want a POTUS, or Governor for that matter, leading my state or country when the guy is a cheeseburger away from a triple bypass.

That's like saying Fox News gets such high ratings because of their unwavering quest for facts and news.

You live in a delusional world.

Great point.

Mormonism outside of Utah and nearby states, seems like a normal religion.

But inside Utah, it's a cult. And evangelicals can't abide that.

They are all liars and it is a choice between evils - both in the primary and then. again in the election in November.

I wonder how many people really think the election is going to significantly change anything? Take your pick amongst the liars, thieves and traitors. A bit of overstatement maybe, but not much.

How much of the federal government do you think elected officeholders still run anyway. They come and they go, but administrators are immortal.

I think its even more specific than that.... Newt, in taking on Juan Williams and John King, well captured the anger of much of the base and lobbed a grenade in the direction that was quite popular (it was a big crowd pleaser). Unfortunately for Newt, this is a bit of a one-hit wonder.... you can not build a campaign on being rude to the press. He had the right audience, at the right time and his retorts were witty. Unfortunately, that schtick gets old very fast. Then again, who would have thought the comedian Gallagher could get so much mileage out of smashing watermelons.

The question isn't why they aren't flocking to endorse him, but why so many of them are going out of their way to say that he should never, not in a million years, be President.

Mormonism is no more a cult than any other organized religion. Hell....I lived in Utah and I've lived around evangelicals in Orange County....I'll take the Mormons any day....those evangelicals are freaks.
