Awesome news. I hope that this isn't just a flash in the pan and a result of early momentum. If Gingrich can carry Florida I think we are sitting in pretty good shape to actually taking Romney out.

You know, I thought for a moment you really wanted to see President Gingrich, but it looks to me like you just think he'd be easier to beat than Romney.

Gingrich is the choice of Democrats and late night comedians.

I don't think it.....I know it....as does most of the rest of the country. Obama would crush Gingrich in "Bob Dole" style. If the GOP can help us take out Romney....I'm all for it.

Would Obama crush Gingrich in debate? IDK. They're both good but Obama comes across as knowledgeable and polite, where as Gingrich comes across as knowledgeable and pretty arrogant. Whether that pushy style of his resonates with voters, while I doubt it would, I'm not sure.

Obama would kill Gingrich in a debate. Gingrich's style of attacking every question and not answering might play well with the right-wing extreme, but it isn't going to fly with most of the country.

And you're completely right, if he did that on every question. For some reason I doubt he would answer every question with a "How dare you!"

I don't know that it is because people are passionate about Newt, it is their dislike of Romney. Conservatives know that with Romney they are not getting a conservative in office.

Watch FOX because they want a horserace. With Romney releasing his tax returns, FOX and the other networks will switch to that topic. FOX will go ballistic defending Romney as "a free enterprise capitalist" and blast Gingrich for criticizing him. They want it to be really close going into Florida to keep people glued to their TV sets watching FOX, as do 70%+ of Republican Primary voters.
Its too early to tell if FOX will dump Santorum or pump him up a bit to make it closer between Romney and Gingrich. FOX does NOT want the primary season to end. If it does they are dead on their ratings for elections for many months. There's a lot of $$$$ at stake for FOX. Since MSNBC will dance counterpart to FOX, Fox is calling the shots.

All the GOP wants is a Christian man with solid family values and who is actually honest about those values.

I think candidate fits that description, one who they may not have considered...

Of course, I don't think Gingrich's past is going to have a major effect on the primary voters. I mean, we had a thread here saying how Gingrich was a rare HONEST POLITICIAN. I mean, the amount of mental gymnastics required to generate that thought is just staggering. There is a group of people who simply make up whatever reality they choose to believe in, and those people tend to vote in primaries more than your average American.

FOX doesn't have to do anything to get ratings, they are #1, and have been for a while. I think FOX wants Romney because they are a republican establishment network, and the establishment want Romney.

The wisdom stating Romney the stronger against Obama is starting to fail in the shifting image of who Romney is. Romney really can't go after ObamaCare and increasingly he is becoming the super rich guy who became super rich through sucking the blood out of companies in his enjoying firing people and running the hundreds of millions of dollars he drained form people's pension funds through Cayman Islands accounts.

Has ANYONE with the Romney campaign explained WHY CAYMAN ISLAND BANK ACCOUNTS? - other than "its not illegal." I think the Cayman Islands bank account stuff sounds really bad for Romney. It just sounds bad, doesn't it?

People don't vote for presidents because they engage in not illegal activities.

Gingrich has the skill to at least make a case for Conservatism and Republicans, rather than a collection of ducking and dodging on the theory that as long as its not illegal, "captialism" means getting money from other people any possible way you can and that offshore accounts are the American way. A lot of stuff about Romney just sounds bad. Most people don't get into details, only general impressions.

There is no good Republican in terms of winning to pick from.

So he wants to run in a general election having sacrificed getting any votes from the black community and also from the Latino population. Great start! lol

This is what I mean when I say his divide and conquer style won't fly in a general election where you can't rely on just rallying the base but actually have to reach out to gather more votes. If he won the nomination, dude would be toast.

I imagine that every time Gingrich gets a spike in the polls, the room goes while over at Obama re-election office -- like a Vegas sports book on Superbowl sunday. Every time Newt opens his mouth and says something that video cameras record, they jump to their feet and cheer.

Because he's making it too easy. Newt is a train wreck. He may win florida, but the GOP power elites will figure out how to take him down a notch and get the electable Romney back on top.

Coulter said it best: “Newt Gingrich is the least conservative of these candidates and the least electable!” Coulter exclaimed. “Fantastic but the South Carolina audience loves when he yells at John King for making a perfectly legitimate opening question.”

Yeah, this one will be on Telemundo if Newt starts getting too many delegates.

No wonder Obama's war chest is so huge, they hardly have to spend any money, Newt and Romney are doing all the work for them...
