I think Rick Santorum is a great conservative, but it's time for him to drop out so that the Republicans don't elect a moderate. We need to make sure that we have a true conservative running against Obama.

true conservative? Newt isn't one given his rutting with the swine pelosi like a boar in heat. Lets beat Obama rather than pretending to be a purist and losing

This is actually some of the best sense I've seen from the conservative side in regards to the 2012 election. My question for conservatives would be this: what's would you perfer, having someone who matches your positions perfectly, but who will lose to Obama, or someone who is a bit more moderate, but could beat Obama? Someone like Santorum has zero chance at beating Obama. Someone more moderate might.

If you look at their position on the issues, it is pretty clear that Newt is conservative. In fact, not only is Newt a strong conservative, he has long been the leader of the conservative movement.

With Gingrich winning in South Carolina by such a huge margin, you would have trouble convincing me that Romney or Santorum are more electable.

How is winning the Republican vote in South Carolina related to winning the entire vote in the whole country?

the thing that the Newt slurpers fail to understand is that he is far less electable in a general election than Romney and really isn't a conservative. The most sinister charge one can make about Romney is that he avoids taxes which to me is something any conservative and most rich dems can appreciate. He also is a uber wealthy good looking guy (seriously ladies, who would you rather sleep with Mitt or a Salamander named Newt) with an awesome pedigree and yet there is not even the slightest hint he has cheated on his MS stricken wife. Newt not only is a flaming hypocrite for bashing Clinton for cheating on Hillary (cannot say I blame clinton for that-but he should have scored some better looking trim) while cheating on two of his wives, he also is hardly a real conservative.

Newt has his head up the ass of big government as much as Obama. His moon eyed love fest with Pelosi over environonsense is pathetic and he's a pimp when it comes to his lobbying

remind me how Newt did in Iowa and New Hampshire

tell me how he is doing in major swing states like Ohio

A lot of conservatives consider Romney to be a RINO. Many of these conservatives will stay home or vote third party if Mitt Romney is the GOP nominee.

I don't regard Gingrich as "the" conservative leader. And I don't think Santorum should drop out. Tonight Gingrich has won basically in his own backyard. Given the post-debate bounce he has enjoyed, I'm not sure even Romney is surprised.

And a lot of moderates will stay home, vote 3rd party, or vote for Obama if Gingrich is the nominee. I think it's more likely conservatives will coalesce around Romney, than independents around Gingrich.

what that shows is that they are actually obama supporters then or petulant silly children. I will vote for Newt over Obama mainly due to the judges we will get at the federal district and appellate court level (where I exclusively practice). I sure am not going to vote for someone who will only help obama win

time for you purists to put on the big boy jocks and stop whining like a little baby if your faux conservative loses to mine

.......he (Gingrich) is far less electable in a general election than Romney........

I want to see how Romney looks in the general election polls for next week because:

1. Romney will have lost the momentum that he previously had.
2. Voters may take a dim view to Romney's activities with Bain.
3. Voters may be less likely to support Romney since his net worth has been released.

I don't think either of your #2's are going to matter, especially the second one. Romney's immense wealth, which he earned, is no secret.

even one who clearly is a fake over a mormon who has done nothing to disgrace his faith

bible thumpers tend to be irrational on this issue

Newt showed that he can take on his critics, and handle the "skeletons" in a way that gains him popular support.

Romney crumbled a little bit. His debate performances in South Carolina have to plant a seed of doubt in your mind about whether he can debate Barack Obama.

Obama is eloquent and well-spoken. He is an intelligent man. I believe Obama would defeat Romney in the debates, and that would lead him to defeat Mitt Romney in the general election. (Same could be said for Santorum)

Oops. missed the numbering error when I posted.

This past week there has been a lot of reporting about Romney's great wealth and that he only pays 15 percent on his income tax return. There may be some voters who did not know exactly how wealthy Romney is.

well newt who should support less taxes on those who pay too much as it is tried to ding Romney by appealing to Obamapopulist nonsense and apparently proved he like Obama, is envious of wealth or is willing to play to that envy in order to try to get elected.

He's a pimp

You seem to be too. Not to mention dismissive, judgmental, and unfair.
