In a sense, Ron Paul has brought a youthful attention and energy into the mix.
And in that sense I think we find the real potential of Ron Paul's campaign. He may not win, but perhaps he can attract new people to the mix and encourage debate amongst Republicans. It was earlier stated (by joko I believe) that third parties do have the ability to overall affect national elections by robbing one of the main parties of enough votes to win. This is the real power of third parties in our current system. If the GOP wants to continually win, they're going to have to satisfy third party voters to encourage them to vote for the GOP. Ron Paul can attract that mindset back to the GOP, thus giving people who may be more inclined to vote third party a reason to vote for the GOP instead.
