How should a President behave?

Give me a break!! Obama hung out with a terrorist. Bush smoked dope and drank in college. Every POTUS has their faults. You're saying we should dismiss how great of a man Washington was for something that was a common practice? Ridiculous.

Mmyeah, good analogy: smokes a doobie ... buys and sells hundreds of people into human bondage....

I've scaned the posts on this thread, and I gotta say there are pluses and minuses.
However, it was not George Washington, nor Jimmy Carter, nor Obama that to me is really relivant here.

The question was "HOW SHOULD A PRESIDENT BEHAVE?"

It said nothing about a particular time, or a particular party.
For that time period I'd say George Washington was doing his best as president and acting for the benifit of America.

To me that is key in any President's action.
Morals and ethics are well and good.
However one must take action according to the oath "protect and defend America from all enemies foriegn and domestic, and uphold the Constitution", well something like that.

So in short as the old saying goes heavy is the head, or it's lonely at the top.

No president should aliegn theirself with one particular class of people or one particular project that would only benifit some of America, while the rest are left in the cold.
A president is the leader of America, and all American people.
No matter how hard a president tries , no matter how good the progress of America becomes , any PRESIDENT WILL MAKE ENEMIES.
Enemies that he must stand against, for the benifit of America, for the progress of America.:peace

Mmyeah, America just shouldn't exist then rather than have had slavery right? I think I'll take the black eye of slavery on this country to have the country to begin with. Wow, I can't believe you have lasted this long on this website with the level of posts you submit.

Washington owned 200 slaves.

Next.

You have to realize that the US couldn't suffer a civil war after the devastating effects of the Revolutionary War, the country was pretty unstable. That's why the war of slavery was fought a hundred plus years later.

He wants no part of honest debate bro. Don't worry about it. Nothing to see here, move along.
It is interesting to think of how the Brits thought of us back then though. Think about it, you have a group of people that want freedom from you, yet, they don't give freedom to everyone they have in their group. Pretty interesting. Still, I'll take that screwup over not having the country at all.

It's true the country was founded on a double standard, but half the country wanted to own slaves so the founders realized this and had to incorporate slavery into the constitution or else face another civil war right after the Revolutionary War and quite possibly have no country at all. It's a tough choice but was necessary for survival of the country.

So our President should have a black manservant, ride nothing but horses, grow hemp and tobacco, and wear wooden teeth?

Yep, Obama would never have a black manservant............
