Moderator's Warning:
The sticky thread for the NH primary. Last one went very well, let's have the same excellent discussion for NH.

I can only hope it will be Huntsman. I had hoped he would be closer to Romney in NH, especially after spending so much time here. I really don't want Romney as the nominee, but I see it as a foregone conclusion now.

BTW, the Wall Street Journal is liveblogging from New Hampshire today. They have some amusing observations:

Appreciate the link, Sensibility--hat tip. Jon Huntsman deserves a favorable finish, given his commitment and blitz in the Granite State. Would be encouraging to see Santorum squeak ahead of Ron Paul for a strong 3rd place finish, but he may have to settle for 4th...

Santorum ranks with Bachmann for me...that is, he's inconsequential. I don't want him in the White House. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'd vote for Obama over him, but I'd never be excited about a vote for him.

i suppose the main question is whether Romney breaks 30 percent. i wouldn't be surprised if he did, possibly with Paul a distant second.

Romney already won the general election. Romney vs Obama 2012.

NH. Rom, Jon, Ron, sant/newt

Just something to keep in mind:
The three most recent presidential election winners (Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama) finished second in the New Hampshire Primary before later being elected to the presidency.

Just something to keep in mind:

True, what I see is a second for Huntsman, but with Santorum close behind. As for Newt and Ron; I'm very uncertain. Then, in SC, Santorum winning.

Met Huntsman today in Manchester he seemed like a nice guy. Its funny though in Hampton and Portsmouth I have seen more Obama supporters than GOP, Hampton only had 600 votes by 11am

If Huntsman can register a good second place showing to Romney, it could help propel him in Florida. Neither Romney nor Huntsman are going to fair well in South Carolina. South Carolina will only be relevant if one of two things happens, Santorum finishes a strong second to Romney in New Hampshire and then wins in South Carolina (As an Obama supporter, that is what I am hoping for). Assuming that Huntsman finishes a strong second to Romney in New Hampshire and it gives him some momentum to finish second in South Carolina (unlikely), then Romney could be in for a fight.
Personally, while I would like to see Santorum get the GOP nod, I think he is a fleeting glimmer. The only issue in New Hampshire is whether Huntsman emerges as a strong contender to Romney or if Romney is a foregone conclusion.

I can see Huntsman doing well if people actually get themselves to the polling stations and vote for him. Because of my job I spent the morning driving around the poll staions around the seacoast and I saw a lot of people supporting Huntsman and saying that they were going to vote for him etc. We shall see!

Very cool that you met him. Can you tell us a bit about it?

Yeh well I work for a local News Network and spent the morning and early afternoon driving around the poll stations including the poll at Manchester's Webster School. Huntsman was there and my boss was talking to him and introduced me to him. He asked if I was voting but I told him I could not as im a resident but my wife will be voting and then he asked me if I liked living in New Hampshire and if I missed the UK etc. Like I said he was a nice guy and even though his aides were trying to rush him he made sure he had spoken to as many people as he could before heading off. His wife seemed a little stepford wife though and I was a little sad that I didnt get to meet his daughters lol.

That's nice! I might be able to meet Rick Santorum soon, because he is doing a town hall in Orangeburg, SC on the 18th.

Even with a 2nd place finish, it won't carry over well to FL. After today till Jan 21st SC primary, you won't hear his name just like Bachmann. Also in the long term, he doesn't come remotely close to Romney in delegates, same with Santorum. Closest would be Paul and somewhat off Newt/Perry. So imo unless it's Paul/Newt/Perry coming 2nd today for a decent push, then it's a lock for Romney vs Obama 2012.

If you do, please share the story with us as well.

let me put it another way then, is there anyone who you think right now is a threat to Obama?

Oh sure. Any of them have the potential to be a threat with the possible exception of Paul. Romney could get alot of moderate support, which would be bad for Obama. Huntsman could do the same, and if he pushes the fact that he is really conservative on economics be even more a threat. Gingrich or Santorum could really rally the conservatives in a way Obama rallied the liberals in 2008. I think the state of the economy come election will be the most deciding factor.

Very good analysis!
