Possible GOP Veep Choices?

Christie has said he is not interested, Gingrich isn't that stupid.

Christie's been walking that back, he's interested. Also, are you sure on Gingrich? I thought he just said last week that she'd make an excellent cabinet member, or vp choice?

Yup on the usual suspects - Christie, Rubio, Jindal.

No on Daniels, he's got a wicked personal scandal in his background (well not him, but his wife), regarding her leaving him and their kids for another man. He loves his wife way too much to put her through the crucifixion that a national campaign would be, in terms of personal reporting/vetting.

What about DeMint? Romney is crazy enough to choose that wackjob as veep to court the wacky right.

Ya, it depends on who the nominee is. All of those you mentioned plus Christie. And as fantasy runs wild, what if Romney got the nod and tapped Santorum? Crazy, I know, but I've thought about it today.

I doubt Santorum would even consider that. It would utterly destroy all of his Conservative credentials to get in line with a guy who has NONE of his own.

This item also looks at how dropping Joe for Hillary would help BO. That's an interesting idea.
If BO runs with Hillary expect a substantial victory for the Dems. However, I'm not sure Hillary would want to step back to being VP unless she has 2016 ambitions. Personally, I wish BO would step aside and let Hillary run for POTUS. She is far more qualified than anyone else running.

Romney and Gingrich - now there's a marriage made in Heaven!

If Christie, Rubio and Jindal wanted to be in federal politics, they would have run for the GOP presidential nomination.

I suspect that they're waiting until 2016 when they don't have to run against Obama.

LOL. Thanks, I needed a good laugh. Hillary is less qualified to be POTUS than I am.

If that were to happen, they'd have to quadruple the Secret Service detail on Romney whenever the VP was in the Oval Office.

Even though he claims to be not interested....I guarantee without a doubt that Marco Rubio will be the VP pick. Jindal? laughable. He destroyed his credibility in the response to the state of the union where he came off looking like an oaf.

For candidates not running in the primaries I defiantly agree that it could be Christie, Rubio, or Jindal. Of course the candidate could always tap an unknown like McCain did, doubtful though. Sorry Turtle Dude I think that kills the Rob Portman's chances lol.

As far as candidates, it does depend on who gets the GOP nod, I personally think it's going to be Romney. Romney need more conservative credentials and a more excited support base, I think Paul as VP would be Romney's golden ticket to the White House.

You are correct that it depends on who gets the GOP nod. Romney cannot be saved by any Conservative VP candidate. Paul would be an absolute disaster in that way. Tough to whin when you have the smarter and more popular guy as the undercard on the ticket.

I see you point about Romney not exciting the conservative base but he has the advantage over the whole field of candidates if it was the general election.

Why do you think Paul would be a disaster for Romney? He doesn't have the strength to pull of the GOP nomination on his own merits but could enhance the ticket's conservative credentials.

I'm a Conservative. Even if Romney has a Conservative VP (the most worthless political office in the world), why the hell would I vote for Romney? It's not like that VP is going to make Romney more Conservative, and unless I think Romney has some terrible disease that will incapacitate him and allow the VP to take the Oval Office, what would the point be?

You can't row a boat in two opposite directions at the same time. For every vote Ron Paul gained the ticket, it would lose them an Independent/Moderate vote at the other end. For every Independent/Moderate vote Romney gained the ticket, it would lose them one at the Conservative end. They would end up treading water in the middle of nowhere.

Good point on about the offsetting of votes; I hadn't thought of it that way!

I do have to say though, it would be good for Paul to take the VP and for you too. The office of the VP has been greatly enhanced over the last few years (thanks largely to Cheney), while Biden isn't making much use of it, the influence remains. I would also argue that it would give Paul the experience and exposure to actually have a shot at being the President after Romney's term (this is all hypothetical of course).

Kinda like a row boat going around in cicles.

I am NOT a fan of Ron Paul. I never have been and never will be. He is a Libertarian and I am an Authoritarian/Conservative. Those two things do not mix well.

Fair enough.

The worship of Rubio baffles me. Can you name one thing that he's actually accomplished?

can you name one that Obama accomplished before becoming president?

Rubio has qualities. He's young and aspiring, smart to debate anyone, and has two things that the GOP need to win Florida and get at least half of the Latin vote

Romney will try to pick someone who appeals to conservatives; from a swing state that might not easily be won otherwise.

that means Rubio, most likely.

Probably Rubio or just maybe Jindal. It is no longer fashionable to run to white men together and there is little other choice.

Romney will try to pick someone who appeals to conservatives.....

He needs to realize that's not really going to be much help to him. Most of us understand that "The Vice-Presidency isn't worth a barrel of warm spit." and are not going to be talked into voting for a Liberal just because his shoe-shine boy CLAIMS to be a Conservative (which he would no longer be after accepting the second-tier spot to a Liberal).
