Reporting from Des Moines—
In a surprise move, and a blunt reflection of the shifting fortunes of Republican presidential candidates ahead of the opening vote in the 2012 nominating contest, Michele Bachmann’s Iowa campaign chairman defected Wednesday night to Ron Paul's campaign.

State Sen. Kent Sorenson, a tea party favorite, was hired as a Bachmann staffer in Iowa even before she announced her candidacy. He helped lead her campaign to victory in the Ames straw poll in August. Ever since, however, Bachmann’s popularity has been in decline.
In a statement, Bachmann responded that Sorenson's defection was "a deliberate move by the Ron Paul campaign to discredit our campaign and growing momentum."

She goes on to say that Sorenson "personally told me he was offered a large sum of money" to work for Paul.

Sorenson, speaking to reporters backstage after the Paul rally ended and the candidate was posing for pictures with supporters, said he had "no idea" why Bachmann asserted that he said he was offered a big paycheck to work for the Texan. He also denied that he told her, "Everyone in Iowa sells out. Why shouldn't I?"

How can someone just jump from one campaign to another like this? He just wasn't some local yocal who had a Bachmann sign on his yard, he was the campaign chairman. It is like the WWF where at one point a wrestler is doing everything to bust the opponent's head and in the next moment they are members of a tag team.
Am not a Bachmann supporter by no means but this is pretty cheesy.

Apparently the guy attended a Bachman event in the morning and then defected to Paul in the afternoon. Someone is definitely lying there.

Bachmann's Campaign Chairman defects to Ron Paul - given that current state of her campaign, why would the Paul Campaign want him?

The false accusations of bribery were a nice touch.

I almost felt sorry for her. That was a pretty low move by a leader on her team.

Really? Haven't seen that this was proven false anywhere?

Where did you see it, or did you just make it up?

I did notice that he never actually denied getting money from the Paul campaign.

Actually it was in the article and even reprinted in the first posting.

One of them is lying big time. I have no idea which one is telling the truth here but the one who is lying loses all credibility for anything they say.

Actually it's not. He never said "They didn't give me any money", did he? He talked all the way around it without actually claiming he wasn't paid off.

Personally, I don't harbor any ill will towards the guy. Michelle Bachmann has done some pretty screwy things. She's like the Sarah Palin of 2012 election cycle, disobeying her "handlers" and campaign managers to make stupid, close-minded, ignorant declarations. She's a sinking ship and if I'm worth my salt I'm not going to hang around, tethered to that ship and being pulled down with it. If Bachmann is too dumb or too much of an idealogue to understand that you can't make outrageous claims like, "Gardisil causes mental retardation" or "Rick Perry killed young girls for campaign donations" (not an exact quote, but the implication was there) and other nonsense then she's too dumb or too much of an idealogue to win an election. I wouldn't want to be representative of her, so I don't blame the guy for leaving on that premise.

If he left for other, more nefarious reasons then he's a dick...but I'm at a loss to understand why she has the supporters she does...surely America can't have that many crazies...

Jumping from loser to loser. How droll.

What's so unusual about wanting to back the right horse?

This is a very very weak substitute for Paul making a clean and honest break with his past newsletters by coming out and giving the details of just who was responsible and how it could happen the way it did if he did not even read them.

Ending conclusion: It is basically a he said - she said. Although her campaign political director (fmr now) essentially called her a lair.

Oh well, I just want to get to jan 3rd already. Tired of waiting...
