I agree with that.He was not the last conservative, or really even conservative. He was the radical in the conservatives' eyes, and must have needed resistance. Smallness of government wasn't exactly the hallmark of American conservatism in the late 18th and early 19th century. He just happens to have ideas that current conservatives may agree with. The same holds true with Thomas Jefferson, who was, again, not a conservative.
