Perry disqualified from Va. primary ballot - Virginia Politics - The Washington Post

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry failed to submit enough valid signatures to qualify for the Virginia primary ballot, state GOP officials said Friday evening.
Perry’s campaign told state election officials it had submitted 11,911 signatures, but a Republican source familiar with the situation said that the Texas governor did not submit the required 10,000.

Republican presidential candidates Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum did not submit signatures and failed to qualify on Thursday, according to state GOP officials.

From what I'm hearing, Newt may be in doubt with having enough signatures.

Check here for results https://www.facebook.com/VirginiaGOP?sk=wall . Results showing today. Romney & Paul qualified.

Hmm...an interesting development, essentially a potential game changer.

Indeed. Newt submitted less signatures then Perry so it is possible that Newt could be out.

I guess it depends on how many are registered and if they are spread out among the 11 congressional districts enough (apparently at least 400 are needed from each district)

Breaking: Newt fails to get on Va. ballot. This could question Newt's "electability". He is barely getting enough delegates to compete in other states and now is out in VA. Paul & Romney are the only two qualified for Va. primary ballot.

Also from what I heard is Gingrich didn't make it onto the ballot in Missouri, either but delegates aren't at stake there. Just shows lack of organization...

VA is apparently a winner take all state, if the winner gets a majority. Important state to win I Imagine.

1000th post.

edit : redundant

Maybe....IF Perry were even a moderate contender at this point. But Perry is such a has been it wouldn't make a hill of beans.

Good point, DisneyDude.

^^

I wonder if a mod can change the title to Newt & Perry [title].

I have read similar things about Gingrich. Almost makes me think he wasn't all that serious in the beginning then realized that it just might happen... but then was too late for some states.

Mid-summer, he had money problems. Though his numbers had a temporary bump, I'm not sure he ever got his house in order. Some staff walked on him, and they apparently don't have the people to run a proper campaign.

So, Newtie just goes on stage and tells white people that blacks have no work ethic. Way to unite the country and bring hope...

I think it's so extremely wrong how the media and states want to silence Ron Paul!!1one1!!

Oh wait....

Virginia is more moderate, I think it will go to Romney and all will be well with the world.

Newt blasts 'failed system' in his home state - POLITICO.com

Newt Gingrich's campaign's statement on the situation in his home state of Virginia, where he was rejected from the ballot early this morning:

"Only a failed system excludes four out of the six major candidates seeking access to the ballot. Voters deserve the right to vote for any top contender, especially leading candidates. We will work with the Republican Party of Virginia to pursue an aggressive write-in campaign to make sure that all the voters of Virginia are able to vote for the candidate of their choice.”

this was his rally 2 days ago in Va. 10 or so people showed up.

Don't people love it when bald face lies are told?

Perry has filed a lawsuit citing a Supreme Court decision striking down a similar law in Colorado. The Virginia requirements only allow registered voters in the state and who vow they will vote in the Republican primary to be able to gather signatures. This means that even Perry himself could not ask voters to sign a petition to put himself on the ballot.
The Supreme Court ruled in the Colorado case that preventing a candidate from another state seeking nomination in the state to the office of presidency can not be banned by a state from asking people to sign his petition as a matter of free speech.

If there is time for the Court to hear the case and unless the Supreme Court reversed it's own prior decision on the identical law, Perry and the other candidates may still make the ballot.
