Obama says jobless rate could drop to 8 percent - Yahoo! News

He is indeed right. If Europe gets its financial act together & Americans keep spending like they are, unemployment in the USA could go down to 8% by this coming summer...and maybe even lower by November 7th.

This would be great for Obama, and help ensure his re-election. :)

.... where was that 8% for the last 3 years?

I'd say it's reasonable for him to hope that enough people give up on finding a job to make it 8% by then.

I could be a size 2 by election day.
Poland could go to the moon by election day.
I could be a millionaire by election day.

....what, are we not listing ambiguous possibilities with no direct commitment or promise of achievement?

Obama inherited a massive-Recession, the worst one since the 1930s, remember?

It wasn't nearly that bad, until Obama and his cronies went on a massive spending spree; wasting this nation's wealth and credit on fraudulent “bailouts”, “stimulus” scams, and “green energy” scams.

who started the bail-outs?

The Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) is a program of the United States government to purchase assets and equity from financial institutions to strengthen its financial sector that was signed into law by U.S. President George W. Bush on October 3, 2008. It was a component of the government's measures in 2008 to address the subprime mortgage crisis.

the way things are going, Obama is likely to be right.

There are only two ways that unemployment is going below 8%: 1) more people fall off the unemployment rolls because they stopped looking, or 2) Obama suddenlt stops killing jobs.

We all know #2 ain't gonna happen.

Obama hasn't killed any jobs. This is a right-wing myth.

Obama hasn't killed any jobs. This is a right-wing myth.

He didn't kill jobs when he postponed the Keystone pipeline? What about the drilling ban?

The real myth is that he didn't kill jobs.

what existing jobs have been lost due to the postponing of the Keystone pipeline?

We're not worried about getting new jobs anymore? No wonder folks are dropping out of the market.

he said Obama killed jobs. one cannot kill a job that has yet to exist.

Now I think we are in abortion territory. I'll call them jobs-to-be and I still don't like them dying.

Obama killed jobs that didn't yet exist?

:lamo

Do you really think this is a good stance for your argument? You think you can't kill jobs before the hire date?

what existing jobs have been lost due to the postponing of the Keystone pipeline?

Move that goal post, brother! :lamo

But, to answer your question, about 200,000 jobs were killed. Ya see, when a pipeliner finishes one job--the existing job--he needs to have another job to move to.

200,000 people are now unemployed because of Obama's decision?

evidence please.

It means that 200,000 new jobs didn't get created. Does it mean that somone will be unemployed because of it? Sure it does.

or those 200,000 people will just get work at another pipeline job.

and btw, where is your evidence?

Right, because there are 200,000 spare jobs just laying around, waiting for someone to fill. :lamo
