Obama: "Unemployment could go to 8% or lower by Election Day"

Right, because there are 200,000 spare jobs just laying around, waiting for someone to fill. :lamo

200,000 jobs! :2rofll: :2rofll: :2rofll:

Hell, that's more than 10x as many jobs as Transcanada even claims it would create. Independent analysts say it could actually COST America jobs.

You shouldn't get your information from idiots.

Where did you get your info for the 200,000 "killed jobs" from?

Oh, the National Manufacturing Association's propoganda!! Good source! :2rofll:

Got anything to refute it? I know you don't, but it's only fair to ask.

I don't doubt unemployment could be 8% by election day... and I don't doubt it will "unexpectedly" rise shortly thereafter.

Obama is prolly right. Ben Bernake, in his ultimate wisdom, by printing more money and distributing it, can give a temporary uptick to our economy. But after Obama is crowned once again, the bubble will burst and we'll be right back we we are now, maybe even worse!

One must always prepare for these "unexpected" mysteries.

Of course I do. Transcanada themselves -- you know, the people building the pipeline? -- only claim that the project would create 20,000 direct jobs, and the vast majority of those would be temporary. Independent studies have shown that it may actually result in NEGATIVE job creation: Fuel Fix » Report: Keystone XL job claims are exaggerated

Obama says jobless rate could drop to 8 percent - Yahoo! News

He is indeed right. If Europe gets its financial act together & Americans keep spending like they are, unemployment in the USA could go down to 8% by this coming summer...and maybe even lower by November 7th.
It just might get that low. Question is, if it does, will he deserve the credit? Will it be due to anything that he had done? Or, would it be just a mere good coincidence for him?

This would be great for Obama, and help ensure his re-election. :)
It would, though I think the Reps will give it to him regardless.

If Republicans can hold Obama responsible for every job lost in the USA since January 21st, 2009.....then Democrats can hold Obama responsible for every job created since January 21st, 2009.

I looked up your little claim and TransCanada claims 20,000 jobs.

Keystone XL will bring significant economic benefits to Americans during construction and operations:
• private sector investment of more than $20 billion in the U.S. economy – at no cost to American taxpayers (food, lodging, fuel, vehicles, equipment, and other construction supplies and services),
create about 20,000 construction and manufacturing jobs, which will increase the personal income of American workers by $6.5 billion,

the way things are going, Obama is likely to be right.
Sure, with the way the government does its figuring and accounting... 120k jobs added, but it takes 4x that much to actually make true employment numbers to change just .1% yet according to them it went down .4%... and of course inflation is a non issue since they don't figure in anything that is increasing... such as food, fuel.... everything is just fine folks, and if you don't believe Obama, just ask him.

The pipeline was a steady source of oil from a friendly country and would of added greatly to our national security and may have even brought gas prices down. The number of jobs it would have created could be quibbled about but unless you are completely out of your mind you have to realize it would of created alot of work. Jobs should be the main goal right now and obama is obviously more concerned with placating his loony left base so he can get reelected than he is in getting this economy going.

Obama inherited a massive-Recession, the worst one since the 1930s, remember?

:) actually according to BLS the recession ended pretty much as he picked up. it's the recovery that has gotten screwed up on his watch.

as for below 8% by election?

1. no President has won above 7.2 since FDR
2. he seems to be reducing the unemployment rate mainly by having people give up and stop looking. I'm not sure that in that condition they would be amenable to the argument that the economy is all sunny again.
3. if we actually were to start adding large numbers of jobs, we could actually see a temporary rise in the unemployment numbers, as people reentered the work force
4. and we would still be millions of jobs down.

but hey. you guys just keeeeeep on dreamin.

baseless & silly speculation.

actually he is 100% correct. it was a huge strategic asset that will now likely instead go to the Chinese. Good job, Captain Jesus McAwesome, SmartestPresidentEver. Way to piss off an ally, help a foe, put us on a weaker fiscal and security footing, and make your administration look even more indecisive, all in one go.

Isn't it sad when we think an 8% unemployment rate is acceptable? I hope on election day unemployment ticks up by 0.0001%, this being Obama and his administration staff

Is there a pipeline between Venezuela and the US? The ME and the US? No, but somehow we still manage to get plenty of their oil. You think it would be cheaper to ship it to China?
