The planned Donald Trump-moderated Republican presidential debate seems to be turning into a bust.
Rick Perry's campaign indicated Thursday that the Texas governor will not participate, saying he will be focused instead on meeting Iowa voters.

Yeah, he's at least smart enough to know that the more talking time he gets, the worse it will be for him.
 
Discounting Perry is a mistake and the jeering over gaffs actually is relatively pointless given all, including Obama, does so rather routinely.

I'm glad to see people dropping out of the Trump debate because it's a sucker's play. In addition, Trump should have obtained agreement of who would attend prior to setting the debate. It could become those who attend appear desperate or TOO much media whores.

I agree with this. We Texans don't refer to Rick Perry as "Slick Rick" and "Tricky Rickie" for nothing. He's a child of Karl Rove and there is no end to his dirty dealings. The dude will run over the dead body of his grandmother if it gets him into office. Don't count him out. The "Aw Schucks, I'm just dumb country folk" is just an act. He's never lost any election he ran for, and it wasn't because he was a stand up American. It's because he plays dirty.

This is for the US presidency, not for Texas.

If they cancel, it'll look like he's the sleazy politician he is willing to do anything to get a little exposure, even kissing Trump's ass (and Romney too). The best comeback so far is from Huntsman's campaign.

Doubt it. Would a one-on-one interview with Donald Trump really be the kind of exposure that Newt Gingrich needs? Trump is a disgraceful figure who seems to be scorned by just about everyone, and if Gingrich is serious about winning the nomination he isn't doing himself any favors by participating in a debate-turned-interview with The Donald. Why not just do a real interview with a real journalist instead? Newt can and has done plenty of those.

I have never heard Perry described as "Slick Rick" or "Tricky Rickie." Only "Governor Goodhair." Who's called him this?
 
Santorum is ready and willing to go to the Trump Circus. I think the Donald's looking for a way out of this thing.
 
Good. Gingrich and Santorum are left. Here's hoping Gingrich comes off looking less "Presidential", and Santorum get's a slight bump.

so it looks like the ONLY participants are gingrich and santorum. trump and gingrich look like the arrogant bastards that they are. good for the other candidates for not kissing trump's ass.

My close friends and associates refer to Perry as "Ricky the Rat".

Because they don't want to kiss the Godfather's ring or be told by him they aren't good enough to lead this country.

LOL, I love Gov. Goodhair. That's pretty funny, but doesn't even begin to address his total ick factor with just about everyone I know. My mom and sister are both Tea Partiers (I must have been adopted) and even they think he's a slimeball, dirty dealing, crook. He's done more back room buddy deals than a gay hooker. (And that's without getting into the whole gay rumors thing, because I wouldn't care whether he is or isn't).
