Gingrch: John Bolton would be my Secretary of State

The man has no ability to keep his cool. I don't think I've seen an interview that doesn't end in his moustache twitching furiously, him raising his voice and wearing an terribly unconvincing superior smile. In short, he'd make a terrible poker player and ergo a terrible diplomat.

Some of us don't see SecState as a "Diplomat". We see SecState as someone who can take the rolled up newspaper that is the Threat of US Military and Economic Power to the puppies that are the other nations of the world.

Imperialist civilizations can survive for awhile and do well... but will always end in self destruction.

I'm not talking about Imperialism, Jet. I'm talking about only doing business with countries that do things the way we believe they should be done, and threatening military action against any nation that sticks its nose into our internal business/politics.

Hitting puppies with newspaper is not the most effective way to train them.

OMFG, you've got to be kidding. I can't think of a less diplomatic person in America. If the goal is to scare off anyone to the left of Atilla the Hun, this is a great start.

And WTF is an entrepeurial state department? "Yo, we need 5% of your GDP to ... eh ... *protect* you from missiles, if ya' know what I mean. Right Rocko?"

I think that's fine - considering all the positions Bolton has filled including Undersecretary of State. Really - it won't be much different than what he's done in the past. If Hillary can do it so can Bolton. I'd consider him to be a better candidate for the position than she is, really.

Whatever you see the position as, someone who can get easily offended and not keep his cool (betraying his total lack of self-confidence), makes a poor character for the role.

No, but it is an effective way to PUNISH them, which is what I'm interested in doing in this scenario.

Not at all. An individual who is easily offended is exactly what I want in that position. It will make these other nations consider their words and their actions regarding the United States much more seriously before they undertake them.

Puppies don't understand punishment. They don't rationalize things.

There is no indication that people talking to Bolton consider their words more carefully on account of him lacking a backbone.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that campaigning as "Bush III" may not be so effective against Obama.

Bingo.

It is beyond me how memories can be so short.

Obama has been ineffective as President, but he has not (so far anyway) created a path of destruction that the Bush Administration left.

The path of destruction the Bush Administration left is in worthless areas of the world. Obamas is right through the heart of America. I tend to find the latter much worse than the former.

I'm starting to think Gingrich just likes being controversial. Which makes him a perfect pick for getting our Capitol in order...

John Bolton as SECState would be a great choice and I doubt it's going to effect the election, either way.

Indeed, we just need someone who is willing to sit down and talk nicely with these other countries because, well, that's all it's going to take to get along with them.

Hence the old saying, "walk like an angry, condescending, bloviating walrus, but carry a big stick."

Yeah, that's totally the only other option.

Kiss ass diplomacy hasn't worked very well. Has it?

Hasn't it? What current problems do you see being fixed by threats and intimidation?
