Tim Miller, a spokesman for Jon Huntsman's presidential campaign, had this response when asked if his candidate would participate in the Dec. 27 Newsmax debate moderated by Donald Trump: "Lol. We look forward to watching Mitt and Newt suck-up to The Donald with a big bowl of popcorn," he said in an email to Business Insider.

Here's The Huntsman Campaign's Awesome RSVP To The Trump Debate

Hahaha, Huntsman is awesome. Why does anyone take Donald Trump seriously?

I'm actually surprised: no one's paying attention to Huntsman - I thought he'd want the focus.

well, maybe he gets it by standing out and refusing.

frankly, I'm a fan of this decision. These people are competing for the office of the President. Not a reality TV show. That our candidates would go to this is embarrassing.

I like huntsman...alot better than some of the others and like Cpwill I agree with this decision...really donald trump ? this primary is really taking on carnival characteristics

? are you aware that Huntsman is the only candidate to have fully endorsed the Ryan Budget?

I recall you seemed to have some issue with that piece of legislation, back in the day.

Regardless of his negatives: he's an exception in the way he was able to actually support and uphold legislation in Utah that changed his state around when they needed it.

He - at least - 'gets it' in that regard.

The GOP base watches a lot of TV.

They think Fox is news. And Trump is someone to be admired.

I can't wait for The Daily Show on Monday.

Most Republicans do not even remotely admire Trump, just trust me on this.

My group is pretty thoroughly conservative and covers all stripes, from self-proclaimed RINO's to those who think that Ron Paul is a bit too statist. None of them like Trump.

So, does Newsmax just have their head up their ass?

Or did Trump finance a big expansion for them?

Likely they simply figured it would bring some exposure to their debate. Its not like Newsmax is exactly a huge name.

that's not entirely unlikely.

newsmax is sort of the mother jones of the right. only the partisans are really reading, i think.'

OTOH, that's the only way their debate would get coverage or attendees.

I wonder if he could be the Obama of the Republicans. I think Obama was under the radar around this time 4 years ago, with the media making more noises around Clinton (= Romney) and Edward (= Gringrich, Cain or whatever) and then the Primary Season started and Obama started to win. It all depend on how well Huntsman's ground support is, betting on NH might come back to haunt him.

Good call on the Trump, I wish Trump would take his hair and leave politics alone.

i like trump! and dont care who knows it lol

hes one hell of a business man and even though i dont agree with some things he says he is not afraid to speak his mind ,unlike most of america!

He stated "most"

The base IS the "most". That's, in part, why its the base.

What % would you say the base is of the entire party?

I guess I associate the GOP base with social conservatives and the Christian right. Perhaps that's an incorrect use of the term, but they will vote conservative even if a candidate is running on a platform that will most likely throw them (the voter) out of work. E.g. Wisconsin. The base voted for Scott Walker and the conservatives. But the Christian right voters who happen work in the public sector or depend on someone who had a job cut by Walker ended up casting a vote against their own self-interest.

I wish you knew how hilariously ironic this post is.

He's filed for bankruptcy four times. (corporate not personal)

He's outstanding at milking his 'brand' for all it's worth. It was too expensive to take his name off the casinos, (losing the brand) that's how he kept them. Or so I've read.

forbes says hes worth 2.5 billion, but he claims 6, so i think he has done pretty well for him self!

still owns a lot of real estate worth millions!

Thank you for noticing. I was making a ha-ha.

And, for once, someone used the word 'ironic' correctly. Usually people say 'ironic' when they mean coincidence or kismet. The word is misused all the time.

Others claim it's a lot less than $1 billion, and theorize that he dropped out of the race because he didn't want to have to publish his tax returns which would show what a con man he is.

Hard to argue that he's not a Republican fan favorite when he actually led the field in the polls not too long ago.

I thought the same thing. Newt accepted the invitation btw.
