do u think this add worked to help with his, um, moment on national tv?

Well, I don't think it could hurt. I think trying to build on it as much as he can is a much better strategy than just ignoring the matter and letting it define him. I don't think he's got much of a chance to recover though. It would have been far easier for him to have maintained his position than it will be for him to try to build himself back up. He's already been written-off by too many and isn't in a position to compete with Gingrich or Romney.

Honestly, I think a smart person would have bowed out by now. The fact that he put out this ad means that he still thinks he has a fighting chance. His debate blunder has gone viral and a 30 second ad of him poking fun at himself and his lack of debate skills isn't going to fix that. It seems like a waste of money to me.

No, that ad won't turn his low polling numbers around. It does effectively stymie objective criticism of his debate performances though.

Perry is the only candidate with funds, organization and a ground game capable of going head-to-head against Romney at this time. Newt may still self-destruct as he's been prone to do in the past. The primaries are structured in such a way this year that people will be less prone to drop out immediately after Iowa too, though that will certainly be a fair gauge of Perry's chances. Perry is doing everything he can at this point to get back in the game and is making good strides. Only time will tell if it's enough.

I don't even remember who it was. But I remember a GOP candidate gave and enthusiastic "WOO!" at the end of a speech an election or two ago and was basically booted out of the election for it. The same thing is happening to Rick Perry.

I wasn't going to vote for either, but found it disgusting that the people are so easily distracted. I think (hope) this ad stops the bleeding in his campaign so that he can be or not be elected based on his own merits. Not on a irrelevant gaffe.

I don't remember that, but I do remember Howard Dean bowing out of the race because he said "BYAHHHHH!!"

the commercial would make me more inclined to have a beer with him

but he has already shown that he does not have the intellect necessary to be a good president. hell, he makes the shrub look bright by comparison. once the American public views a candidate as too dumb for the job, there is no recovery

Yep, there's certainly a fine line there, between not being viewed as too dumb for the job, and being just dumb enough to be considered perfect for the job.

this is actually a pretty good continuation of an excellent response to a horrible moment in an awful performance. and it reinforces what we hear about the guys' skills as a campaigner - not taking yourself too seriously is a serious strength. his main contender for the NotRomney slot has pretty much the opposite approach, and I think in the past week has already declared himself the victor and claimed credit for coming up with supply side economics.

in addition, he did pretty well in the Attorneys General debate moderated by Huckabee, and was fairly open in his closing remarks about the fact that he was asking folks to take a second look at him. we'll see if the "honesty" approach gets him any traction.

It is too early to write off Perry or Bachman.

Gingrich is so high on himself now that he may fall at any time. Contrary to the media seeming to indicate that Iowa will decide, actually it will be S. Carolina and Florida that will be the primaries that start clearing the pack out. Both those could be good states for Perry. Iowa is eccentric with a unique and limited primary selection process.

W Bush was a stumble mouth who held 2 terms.

The media loves to play gotjas and converts the election process to try-outs for who best can best act in the role of President as an actor, since reporters have been mostly replaced with commentary-actors. The actors of media believe if an actor forgets his line then he obviously shouldn't get the acting-role of President. But not all voters agree with that analysis of politics. The opposition likes to declare a mental lapse destroys a candidate. How many of Obama's off statements (52 states) did Republicans want to declare proved him incompetent?

Perry isn't out of it yet. Becoming human and likeable isn't a bad direction to pursue at this point for Perry.

Bachman is finished. Perry is quite likely finished, too, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility that he could stage a comeback.

It's funny how Perry is using the "I'm not a slick debater and that's a good thing" argument after we've spent three years hearing the rightwingers try to bash Obama for allegedly depending on a teleprompter.

I also wonder how many takes it took for Perry to get this ad right.

Not reminding me of his oops moment would of been a better ad.
