Yep, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I want Bloomberg to run for President.

Why? He's independently wealthy, so he wont be dependent on donations from PACs, corporations, unions etc etc.

He is a social Moderate, but a fiscal Conservative-lite.

He is smart, knowledgeable, and experienced. He has managed NYC quite well, keeping most people relatively happy.

Unemployment in NYC is low compared to the rest of the State, and almost all new jobs since the Great Recession have been in NYC.

Basically, I think Bloomberg could do what needs could get done. I think he could get the Republicans to agree to revenue increases, and get the Democrats to agree to real spending increases.

Bloomberg for POTUS!!!

He would be a bigger joke than Obama. A few monutes ago I didn't think that could be possible.

You finally convinced me of something, Thunder! :lamo

Bloomberg continued & expanded upon Guiliani's great successes with cleaning up NYC, making it safe for tourists & residents, and making NYC just a great place to be and work.

Hell, if he can do that to NYC through one Recession and one Great-Recession, imagine what he could for the USA???

oh, and did I mention he is independantly wealthy.

Just because he is independently wealthy doesnt mean he wont be dependent on PAC and what not...

sure, he will need some donations. but he wont be dependant upon them. someone with $10 billion in the bank is dependant upon NO ONE for anything.

I thought ya'll didn't like rich folks.

You know why rich people are rich? It's because they do smart things with their money. No billionare on earth is going to spend his money on a campaign, when he can spend someone else's.

Some of them got rich from their family's inheritance, and some of them spend money pretty foolishly. Some of them got rich through luck and some work (alot of movie stars, pop singers and sport stars), and some of them spend money pretty foolishly. Some of them got rich because they are smart and luck - like internet entrepreneurs, and some of them spend money pretty foolishly. Some of them got rich because of pure hard work, and some of them still spend money pretty foolishly.

If the candidate himself aren't willing to bet his own money on himself, why should I? That's how a smart person should think.

Bloomberg for POTUS!!!

**** Bloomberg and his disdain for the occupy movement and not to mention his extreme meglomaniacal attitude that drove him to the point where he threw out election term limits so he could get elected a third time as mayor to NYC. Furthermore, should this FOIA filing turn up evidence that Obama's administration was behind the coordinated attacks on the Occupy movements then definitely **** Obama too.

Yes absolutely, this was what I thought so too...
unless Bloomberg himself possesses a certain fetish lust for power, why should he hurt his own wealth with a possbility that he could lose running the presidency?

Secondly, even though Bloomberg is a successful man financially...
I have to say that his Bloomberg channel is abysmal compared with CNBC - most of the time their news anchors are just reciting facts with a dramatic element to it attempting to make it exciting to watch but yea right...
Can they stop treating their viewers as if they are idiots ??!! lol

The only thing harder than getting rich, is staying rich. Some of the biggest cheap skates I've ever met, are millionaires.

Anyone stupid enough to piss his own money away on a gamble, when he could be pissing away someone else's, is far too stupid to be in public office, especially POTUS.

again have to agree on this.

It just seems to be a common trait across the board for most (if not all) billionaires to minimize their costs in the expense of other people's... so that even if they dont get richer... they won't become poorer either!

You know that old saying: A fool and his money are easily parted. Anyone that is going to be a fool with his own money, can be expected to be a damn fool with my money.

Lol I havn't heard this old saying before but I think this is appropriate for the context

My pop applied that old saying to me, when I went into business for myself. :rofl

So you claim. Many studies have shown that people from rich background enjoy the network of rich people they have to do better in life.

Which doesn't mean that most millionaires are cheapskates.

So you prefer your President to be a hypocritical cheapskate. Good to know.

Bloomberg for POTUS!!!

You couldn't get me to vote for Bloomberg if you paid me $10mil. The guy is a bane for anyone that doesn't conform to his views.

I was going to PM you this thread if you hadn't posted on it. You've been one of the bigger critics of Bloomberg and the possible run in 08 I believe..

Stop living your life by polls and studies and get out in the real world.

Most of the ones I've known are.

When it comes to managing my tax dollars? You damn right I want him to be a cheap skate. At least a little, before he comes asking for more.

I really don't know much about Bloomberg, but I would take his seeming political shifting as a good sign...he's not so ideologically driven that he can't depart from party planks to seek the best solution to a problem. His successful record seems to bear that out as a good strategy for governance.

It would be nice if some wealthy person with a good track record of public service would self-fund a national campaign and pledge not to accept any gifts/trips, etc. from lobbyists once in office. He could style himself as a true man of the people, with a proven record of not being beholden to PAC's., etc. Take his campaign directly to the American people, with no filters in between.

If a man like this is a fool, then I think we need more fools that care about people more than self-enrichment.

Exactly because it shows how committed the person is to the cause
