Election 2012: Obama 50%, Gingrich 38%

If I were Obama and had to face Newt in a battle of wits, I would call in sick. Newt can wipe the floor with just about anyone alive when it comes to political and historical knowledge. Plus he has no need of a teleprompter. My money would be on Newt in any debate.

I know you probably have bought the whole "Newt is a genius" and "Newt is an Ideas man" stuff but he's not that smart and he's not that great a debater. I promise you he'd get his ass handed to him. Of politicians out there, he's the ultimate troll. That's his schtick and it wouldn't fly in a one on one debate.

*edit...

Love your sig btw.

Take away Obama's teleprompter and you have a stumble-bum.

I doubt Obama would debate one-on-one with Gingrich. At least not if he could possibly avoid it...

Obama didn't have a teleprompter in the Democratic primary debates or debates with McCain during 2007 and 2008  Just sayin'.

Gingrich is an above-average debater compared to his fellow GOP candidates. That's not really saying much, though. I think it would be evenly matched.

President Obama has opened a wider gap over Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich, even as the former House Speaker seems to be enjoying a bounce in support nationally among Republican primary voters.

Admittedly that gap can close fast...

Gingrich is just the latest paper candidates (Bachman, Perry, Cain, etc). Newt's chances of winning the Presidency are on par with Ronald McDonald, who, to my knowledge, has yet to declare.

The teleprompter deal is a ridiculous wingnut talking point.

Problem with Newt is his record is horrible compared to the words coming out of his mouth. He cant campaign on family values for one... and the evangelical crowd should have a serious problem with a man who not only divorced a couple of times, but slept around and left his cancer ridden former wife..

As for his "debating skills", as long as no one fact checks what he is saying (yea right) then he should be fine. He has a history of some serious whoopers...

I doubt it. Newt is a horrible candidate, and that poll sounds about right to me. If Obama is already polling at 50% before the campaign has really begun, it should be a danger sign for Republicans seriously thinking about nominating Newt. My opinion is pretty much what the polls show: Romney would be the strongest candidate against Obama. I also think Romney is the most likely nominee.

Newt is definitely a smart guy and a good debater...but Obama is not exactly a blithering idiot himself on the debate stage. In any debate between the two, I anticipate that Obama would do a respectable job even if Newt was deemed the "winner." The problems with Newt's candidacy are simply too big to overcome with a few good performances in debates IMO.

Well I wouldn't call him a genius either.. I mean it's not like he's won any Nobel Awards or anything? :)

However, he is clearly more able than the community organizer -n- chief..

Because anyone is capable of organizing their community, while it takes a dynamite candidate to leave your wife for another woman while she's got cancer, amirite?

If she was a bitch, I doubt cancer had anything to do with it, and probably made her more so. I left my wife with two kids. I didn't leave my kids, but the bitch got them anyway, and now she sits on her arse collecting child support that would make cafeteria liberals blush.. In a nation where 50% of us divorce within 5 years, or is it 7? I doubt the divorce thingy will hurt Newt much in the race to be honest. The GOP primary is about anyone other than Romney, but even if Romney got the nod, republicans would still get out to vote because then it becomes anyone but Obama..

On another note, it will be interesting to see how many that supported Clinton will admonish Newt if Newt gets the GOP nod.. LOL

She was a bitch? Really? By all accounts she's a very nice woman. I guess Newt didn't complain when she was putting him through college and grad school, or campaigning for him.

Actually he did very well in the 2008 debates without one.

As to Newt - he has a very strong personality. How he comes across depends on if the wants to be a major prick that day or be a nice guy. I suspect if he did debate Obama, the prick side would be on display for the nation to see. Yup - he is smart. And yup - he is a good thinker on his feet. But he can be one elitist condescending SOB when he tries to show everyone what a genius he is and how much contempt he has for those who have not drunk the kool-aid with him. That sort of thing does not play well with the middle you need to win an election especially when Obama comes off as a decent and nice guy.

Of course she was.. Of course.. Dude, anyone that's been married and divorced knows that all isn't as rosey as some make it out to be. The point is that I don't know who she is, and or what led to their divorce, and neither does anyone else not intimate with the couples separation. No doubt there will be tons of speculation, and conjecture to fill the nightly tease. I stayed with my ex 3 years more than I should have, but it was worth it as my, then youngest boy was born, and I wouldn't change any of that for anything. In fact even if it meant having to do it all over again, marrying her so that i could have my two boys, I'd do it in a heartbeat..

Anyway.. Who the hell knows, but I find it a bit inconsistent for cafeteria liberals to even bat an eyelash at the proclivities of anyone, even one with an (R) besdie their name.

That's true, and he wasn't very good either.

And his opponent was a cadaver.

We haven't really had true debates for years.

What we see nowadays are more like quiz shows. No stream of thought allowed.

Surrreee....he's pretty much gotten through the Republican Primary debates by debating an Obama that's not there and chastising the moderators asking the questions.

We'll see how well of a debator he is now that other Republican canidates will actually be going after him.

All you need to know about Tim's logic right there. "Of COURSE she was a bitch!" "But I didn't know who she is."

No stream of thought allowed.

Oh, there has definately been a stream coming out of Newts mouth. Like when he claimed he was paid over a million dollars to act as a historian for Fannie and Freddie or how he claimed he warned them about the housing bubble.

In all the years I have been watching Newt I've never really seen him stumble. Obama on the other hand?? Newt thinks very well on his feet, Obama not so much. A lincoln style debate would be great but Obama would never agree to it. Just watch and see it happen and I predicted it right here and now. Remove the moderators and watch the sparks fly. That's what American's want to see.. Who's the guy that can outwit his opponent?

I'd rather watch some of the folks on this forum. There's plenty of posters here who would destroy both of them in debate.

I wasn't saying "of course" she is/was a bitch. I was being sarcastic. I don't know if she was or not.

That said.. Even when the topic comes up, and it will you can count on it, I think politically it's a wash. I think American's can look past any subjective (Selective) morality this cycle as there are way more important things to consider. Not to mention, Newts response on this matter already is clear and concise. He's made peace with his younger self, and so too has his ex wife. My understanding is that they are now friends after all these years. He says if his younger self turns you off, then he has no argument with how you feel about electing him, and voters will vote the way they always do. And that's with their guts. The issue will come down to who American's think is better for the country. What direction will American's decide on. The ideologies couldn't be anymore opposite, so this is what American's will decide.

What else is there to say or explain?
