Does anyone here at DP genuinely support Mitt Romney?

While I don't agree with Republicans on many things except Fiscal issues to a certain extent (just not the way they want to execute it) I can genuinely sympathize with many Republicans frustration with Romney and why his numbers have stayed steady and not changed. The guys got no balls or conviction. He changes his positions every other week depending on what the polls say or what he thinks Republicans want to hear. Hell even if he says things you like, as a Republican alot of the time you know he's being disingenuous and just pandering...

Your thoughts?

I personally like Romney.

I could care less about his social positions, and it really doesn't bother me that he's flip-flopped. He's a business man after all. He'll say what he needs to say.

But on the financial side, Romney is a titan. Not only his work in Mass, but the SLC Olympics and Baine Capital, show his true colors as an economic reformer.

Maybe I'm cold and heartless, but I'm voting in 2012 for the candidate that will increase my bottom line. I think Romney will do that better than anyone on the GOP stage.

Don't like Romney.

He is like so many other slickery politicians.. and generally left leaning media folks are constantly anointing him the one true hope of the right which is telling imo.

I like Paul most I think. Kind of the opposite of Romney in countenance.

I don't care for him much, too much the politician. I'm just fairly sure it is going to end up being Romney vs Obama, and I don't know if there is enough tequila in the world to make up for that choice...

Maybe if we add in all the whiskey?

Also like Cain better...

I like smart people

Romney is far and away the smartest man running for president in both the GOP and the DEMS. Probably smarter than anyone who has run since GHWB

I like Romney because there are only 2 candidates with significant business experience. He and Cain are the only ones who actually understand why businesses aren't hiring, the others are just spouting the same old crap that got us here.

In the end, he scores ahead of Cain because the "999" is a prescription for a deeper recession.

I don't know if that is necessarily the case. I mean, an impending sales tax could cause people to rush out and buy a bunch of stuff. And then any time you needed to boost the economy, you just have a sales tax holiday.

In all seriousness, a major tax reform could cut both ways. If you get people excited about the change, and it improves confidence, then you would see an improved economy. If, however, it causes people we become stingy and less confident, then you would have a recession on your hands.

The funny part is, he is the best the right has. Obama is guaranteed a win against him because he is way to left for his crazy right buddies. Oh and he is a monumental flip flopper as well.

Again, Obama is guaranteed a win in 2012 and any real student of politics knows this.

Smug much?

You are forgetting one teensy-tiny little thing: everyone, and I mean everyone of those "crazy right buddies" wants to see nothing more than Obama lose in 2012. Romney could be nothing more than a Scarecrow with a ticking clock for a heart and a Clinton/Gore pin on his chest and they'd still vote for him over Obama.

Also, the economy is kinda in the ****ter right now. Based on the simple economic principle of "good economy = party in power stays in power," Obama is looking at a long uphill climb.

And lastly, Obama has pissed off a lot of core liberal constituents. I'm not saying that they'll be voting R in '12, but they won't be as anxious as 2008 to get out the winning Obama message. I mean, one of the reasons Obama did so well in 2008 compared to his polling was that a large number of young voters, aka those who never vote, came out to vote for "Hope and Change man". Given that Obama has lost much of that enthusiasm, and the Republicans still hold the enthusiasm advantage after their stunning mid-term elections in '10, it's not nearly as cut and dried as you seem to think it is.

Actually I take that back. I would like to see the Tourette's Guy or

this guy

I wouldn't really care since we'd be screwed with both romney & obama if elected. I would atleast want to enjoy some quality lol before we go down as a nation.

I think Obama gets elected by default. Republicans will hold their noses and nominate Mitt like they held their noses and nominated McCain.

I'd rather vote for Snookie than Romney.... but I'd rather vote for Romney than Obama.

I agree and I think most republicans also agree. I do not trust Romney at all. He is a dishonest weasel that will say whatever it takes to get elected. He doesn't have any core principles or beliefs. His political record is one of a liberal. He should have run against BO in the democrat primaries where he belongs.

I have zero clue what the man stands for. He's a flop-flopper, a waffler, someone who says whatever needs to be said at the time to garner support and to hell if he contradicted himself. I don't see anything wrong in someone maybe changing their mind through information, research, and thought. In fact, it's good for all of us to review our beliefs and policies and refine them, examine them, question them. But he does it all the time. Who actually knows what he will do when in office? Not me, I dare say not many voters. Man's a charlatan.

Voting for Romney would be like voting for McCain, except that you would be able to console yourself that at least he was a good, honorable man with a firm commitment to his core values.

Romney is why people don't like politicians.

And I will not vote for him.

I don't know what you are talking about, Ikari. Romney's policy positions are very consistent with his personal ideology that he has held quite strongly for a while, which is Mitt-needs-to-get-elected-ism.

he stands for Romneyism - the belief that Romney should be President. that is his deepest held value system; it's what he truly believes in. Which may be why the "mormon" thing isn't catching on - because we know he's not a mormon, he's a romneyist.

Frankly I've never understood Romney's appeal. I don't think he's a conservative. For some reason he seems to poll well. Got to admit he is well educated, better than Obama.

I would prefer his cousin, but I would honestly support Romney for President. He's the second-best candidate in either field, with a proven track record of economic reform and growth.

He polls consistantly among establishment republicans, that's it and that's all...
