Rick Perry raises $17 million, Ron Paul $8 million - BostonHerald.com

WASHINGTON — Republican Rick Perry raised more than $17 million in his first seven weeks running for president, a large haul that helps cement his status as the top alternative to rival Mitt Romney despite the Texas governor’s recent campaign struggles.
GOP opponent Ron Paul, the Texas congressman who is a favorite of libertarians, brought in $8 million and, in doing so, proved that he’s in the race for the long-haul even though he hasn’t been able to break into the top tier of candidates in national polling.

It looks like Paul is getting more backing than I thought he would. I don't think we're ready for him as president, but I'd love to see him make veep at least. The grass roots stay strong.

Paul polls at 7 to 10 % nationally, and very consistently. He has a strong base, and almost no support outside that base. He will stay in, but he won't be a factor. RealClearPolitics - Election 2012 - 2012 Republican Presidential Nomination

Ron Paul in 2008 had a pretty good donation size too. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't really do that well appealing to people outside of his fans. Most people probably think he is crazy when he starts on foreign policy.

Yeah I always said his problem is that he comes off as the "cantankerous old man". Ironically enough, if he had less verve with his opinions, he'd have an excellent shot.

I don't think it is that. I think his problem is his views are not mainstream, and the things he considers important, most people don't. The problem is not how he comes off, but his platform.

Maybe it's just my nature, but I don't see his views as all that contemptible. Do I agree with every one of his beliefs? No, not even close. I'd take his side over any other Republican out there though, without hesitation.

I also think that most younger voters tend to agree. He just has to get the approval of the old fart demographic.

Maybe he should get the endorsement of Arnold Palmer. I hear old people agree with Arnold Palmer.

I did not say his views are contemptible. They just are not shared by a large portion of the electorate and what he thinks is important, most people don't. Remember the debate where he talked about how gas could be a dime a gallon if dimes where actually silver? No one cares about stuff like that, and yet he used part of his debate time saying it.

Paul campaign is doing a lot better this time around with majority of donations coming from regular people with 24 hrs money bombs. In Q2, he had a large backing of donations come from active military vets. I believe more then the entire republican field combined and more than Obama. Lemme see if I can dig up some of donation results.. (google)

Personally, I think that is the only topic that he sounds sensible about.

Interesting to note:

He'll also note that the campaign has more than 100,000 donors — five times as many as Rick Perry.

Ron Paul is the Republican version of Jesse Jackson in the 80s-90s

Paul reminds me of Walter.
Perry is The Jose Jalapeño... on a Stick
Cain is Sweet Daddy Dee
Romney is the Dead Terrorist
Bachman is Peanuts
Gingrich is Bubba J

Ironically, that's the one subject where he's actually right.

Ron Paul 2012.

I don't see how he's very wrong on anything. His problem is the manner of his presentation: shrill and unpolished, disjointed. He tends to start a new sentence before he has finished the old one; so, too often, the listener is left wondering, "what is he talking about?". And that's a credibility killer.

Paul's says he wants to restore constitutional government. But the majority of people have no conception of such an issue. Most people imagine that government at all levels already abides by the letter and spirit of the constitution--and the mainstream media preserves this delusion by ignoring the stories of those whose experiences demonstrate government's perversion of the constitution.

If it wasn't so tragic, it would be funny how people get excited about a presidential election, like it actually matters which establishment-approved madison avenue clone becomes the next puppet president. How many people have compared Obama's campaign promises to his white house record? How many would even think the vast difference is even important? Americans are political IDIOTS! They've sold out their heritage for a handful of baubles and trinkets.

The only chance to avoid revolution is if enough people have had it up to "here" with all the corporate-political BS to vote for Paul out of desperation. But that's doubtful, since everybody feels they have something to lose by voting "wrong". Republican government was a great idea, but all we've got left is democracy, which the founding fathers regarded as a horrid scourge.

I saw a post in another Thread that Ron Paul would be great as Secretary of the Treasury of head of the Fed. Either one would be good for him and us.

Perry has backed some Liberal positions in the past, but then so has Romney.

I like Herman Cain the more I see and hear from him. He's a down to earth guy who has had the executive experience and having held positions similar to Herman Cain and I know what it's like to have to meet a budget and still get the job done with no excuses.
