An Honest Conversation about Race

It is exactly what you are suggesting.

Oh, I see. You know I have to thank you for letting me know what it was I was actually suggesting instead of what I thought I was suggesting. It makes perfect sense that you would know better than me.

Does anyone else see the irony in this? "Black culture is morally depraved and produces thugs and lowlifes...oh, Obama is talking about the Trayvon Martin case? What a race baiter!"

Nice left wing spin, trying to create what does not exist. An excellent example of why the OP was correct, there can be no honest discussion.

Okay, I wasn't sure how you thought it related to my post because that's not what I am suggesting. I don't see creating a level playing field as victimizing a group.

If you want one group to stand down for the benefit of another group, they are indeed victims.

I give up

Why? Because you have come to realize what you want is institutionalized racism, in order to provide 'pay back' for previous institutionalized racism? Or because everyone can see that is what you want?

Does an "honest discussion" have to be within the parameters of your blatant agendism? Josie and the rest of you who agree with her are playing the hypocrite. You can bring up the Trayvon Martin case in a racial context, but Obama can't. Obama talking about previous injustices towards blacks is race baiting, but acknowledging that black culture is inferior and degenerate is necessary for an "honest discussion."

He was also in favor of black pride, and toward the end of his life, democratic socialism.

He must be swelling with black pride....

I agree with her basic sentiment: The left doesn't want to look at why Martin chose to attack Zimmerman. So why does that make me a hypocrite?

Doubling down on the spin I see.

It makes you a hypocrite if you believe that you talk about the racial aspects behind the Martin case, but that Obama and other black leaders can't. You're applying a double standard if you think that denigrating black culture isn't race bating but talking about past prejudice towards blacks is.

Please elaborate. How am I misrepresenting what she has been saying?

You know exactly how you are misrepresenting it, to suggest you do not is being intellectually dishonest. I have plan to play your little game.

I'm honestly wondering. Did Josie not say that black culture needs to be examined as a root cause of today's racial issues? Does she not believe that Obama and the other black leaders who are commenting on the issue are race bating?

I have no problem with Obama or anyone else discussing race as it relates to the Zimmerman case. The problem is much of the discussion's been one-sided: Trayvon the martyred victim of the racist Zimmerman. And if you support Zimmerman you're a racist, too. End of story. Then the president chimes in and says Trayvon could have been his son or even himself 35 years ago because, I presume he was saying, young black men are pissed off because white people fear or don't respect them. From my white-colored glasses I see this as an attempt to justify a vicious physical attack on Mr. Zimmerman and paint Martin as a victim. I can't reconcile this position with basic common sense, which for me is I don't give a flying-**** what your race is. If you knock me to the ground and start hurling your "unarmed" fists into my face I'm going to presume you intend me great bodily harm, perhaps leading to my death, and if I have a gun I will attempt to shoot you with it.

I saw the thread title and thought that maybe, just maybe, a conservative on this forum was opening their mind. Then, I saw the first four words: "Here they go again." And it went downhill from there. What a misleading thread title (you have a history of those, by the way). You aren't interested in an "honest conversation about race" - it seems that most conservatives aren't. But honestly, that's okay with me. You have to be ready for that kind of conversation in order to have it. It doesn't seem most conservatives are ready - the rest of us will be here if you ever are.
conservative or libertarian ?

l understand what you mean

some libertarians are real conservatives who hate being called conservative

Do white people in power only represent white people and black people only represent black people?

yes ,according to your own comments about obama not being all americans's president after his statement

What? Quote it.

If we want to have an honest conversation about race and racism,
it will need to start with the idea that people fear the unknown.
Racism at it's very roots, is based on ignorance, the lack of knowledge.
A person can have friends from other races, because they are known,
yet still fear unknown persons of the same racial group as their friends.
These barriers are coming down quickly.
Within my short 50 some odd years, I have seen a time with Black and White
water fountains, and segregated schools.
People who say race relations are not improving,
don't know where we are coming from.
Stereotypes do not help this equation.
We need our media and Government to focus on the ways we are the same,
not the ways we are different.

Examining 'black culture' with an eye CERTAINLY to the common if not NORM of your typical black communities, how could you deny it as a 'cause' of todays racial issues?

The problem is not nor ever has been what black PEOPLE are capable of. We have countless powerful and positive examples of what black people are capable of. As individuals they are no more or less as able as any other person regardless of race. But the collective community? What is promoted as desirable? Constant? Normal? Acceptable?

Jessie Jackson after the 1992 elections took off the suits, put on the black shirts, and started hitting the black community across the nation. His message...blacks in this country are committing genocide. If you dont take a stand in your community and schools, you are culpable. No longer was the threat to black Americans coming from Bull Connor...it was coming from within. That...didnt go over so well.It was equally poorly received when Louis Farrakhan began preaching during the million man march. Black man. BE a man. Dont have babies out of wedlock. Dont have babies you cant take care of. Dont expect whitey to take care of you. Stand up!

Ummm...no thanks Mr Farrakhan...go ahead and sit down...
