President Obama continues to fan...[W247, 258]

He was trying to explain how many black saw the issue, identified with it, and why.

Except when you start out the conversation with an obvious lie.

He is still black, isn't he? I didn't know you had to be poor and in a gang to be black.

Socioeconomic status is a factor in many things including behavior and speech.

Psychosocial Risk Factors
Considerable evidence links low SES to adverse psychosocial conditions. People who work in low-paid jobs are not only the most materially disadvantaged, but they also have higher job and financial insecurity; experience more unemployment, work injury, lack of control, and other social and environmental stressors; report fewer social supports; and more frequently have a cynically hostile or fatalistic outlook (Adler et al., 1994; Berkman and Syme, 1979; Bosma et al., 1997; House et al., 1988; Karasek and Theorell, 1990).

Truth doesn't change because your skin color is different.

Obama: ‘Trayvon Martin Could’ve Been Me 35 Years Ago’ | TheBlaze.com

President Barack Obama spoke publicly for the first time about the outcome of George Zimmerman’s murder trial, speaking about the pain black Americans feel about the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

“When Trayvon Martin was first shot I said that this could’ve been my son,” Obama said. “Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could’ve been me 35 years ago.”
Obama said it’s “important to recognize that the African American community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history that doesn’t go away.”

“There are very few African American men in this country who haven’t had the experience of being followed when they were in a department store,” Obama said. “And that includes me.”

The president was very wrong to weigh in on this case the way he did. This was completely inappropriate IMO.

Perhaps you're seeing your own truth. To some people, the case did involve race and concerns connected to race. He tried to explain why.

Some people want to see what they want to see even when all the evidence points in the opposite direction.

So what, you think black people are racist and bad? I don't care if they hate me, I would still care for them as people. I would still equality and rights.

Note, that I think black people hate. I am just explaining my beliefs.

im pointing out racism isn't a one sided issue and according to the poll Blacks have the biggest problem being racist so why does whites need to be the only ones to have the finger pointed at and do the changing

Trayvon could have grown up to accomplish a lot himself. Nothing says otherwise, given his age and lack of a.record.

He's a minor, his record is sealed regardless of what it contains. But we do have two recent incidents that show the kid was going down the wrong path quick. His affiliation with B&E and expressed intent to purchase an illegal firearm/w pictures.

I think it was too, and this wasn't the first time. But maybe what the President wants is racial turmoil.

Oh yes, the Professor Gates and Sgt Crowley fiasco. Maybe he just wants another beer. Beer Summit 2013!

Let's hope that Josie always stays prejudiced against those people! Josie's posts are always interesting to read, and she is one of the people I would miss if she disappeared. :2bow:

How did I miss this? Thank you. :)

Please refrain from commenting until you actually read the exchange, because that's not what happened.

If you do not want people to comment on what you say, you must remain quiet. That's kinda how it works. And yes, it seems to be the stretch you were making.

I don't mind comments on what I say. Comments are good -- when they're comments on what I actually said.

Because it's always a good time to talk about racial issues.

What you seem to either intentionally ignore and misunderstand is that when you attach talking about racial issues to this case, you spread the idea around that this case was about race, when it wasn't....

And intelligent people who know better are going to view this negatively....... especially if all these "protests" are about justice for a kid killed in self defense, as obvious from the facts and determined in court.

He was trying to explain how many black saw the issue, identified with it, and why.

He could have used that opportunity to dispel the notion that this case had anything to do with race.

He decided to fan the flames instead.

He tried to explain why those people are right.... when they aren't.

Instead of telling people they were wrong about believing this case had to do with race, he encouraged them to believe the way they do, he reassured them that they are right.
