Liberals Better then God

Absolutely! When Wesburo goes off and acts stupid I quickly point out their hatred is not like that of the Christians I know and respect. I condemn them. I don't expect every liberal to come here and condemn this woman's voice, but as we've seen none of them do. They'd rather attack someone who brought it up; does that make ALL liberals out to believe the same thing - NO - I don't use "all, every," and other such broad brush terms - but you will notice the attackers here who couldn't bother to criticize her words were very quick to use that brush - which is a nice diversionary tactict.

That's not quite what I asked.Saying you condemn something without providing the proof that you actually done so is meaningless.

Here is some things I've notice.
There are liberals who have said stupid things at one time or another.
There are libertarians who say stupid things.
There are socialists who have said say stupid things at one time or another.
There are conservatives who have said stupid things at one time or another.
There are Democrats who say stupid things.
There are Republicans who have said stupid things at one time or another.
I've said stupid things at one time or another (at least I admit it).
You've said stupid things at one time or another(do you admit that?).
Everyone on this for damn for has stupid things at one time or another.

Stupidity does not respect geography,or political ideologies.
It's pretty much an equal opportunity offender.

Anyone who says something stupid deserves to be condemned for it.
It is not right to use what one person says as an excuse to attack entire groups.
And a lot of that is going on in this thread.
It sucks, but that's what we humans have a tendency to do.
Apparently, there will always be upright, talking, bipedal hairless primates looking for any excuse to fling their feces at someone else.

If you condemn what Anthea Butler had to say, well good for you.
So do I.
But why are you so concerned who is or who isn't doing it.Is your life so perfect that you have nothing better to do?

When I used the term "none" it was in reference to the posts made by the leftists in this thread - it was very specific. Can you point me to a post in this thread by a leftist that condemned the hate speech by this professor? And yes I consider calling God a "white racist" to be hate speech.

You don't use broad brush terms like "all" or "every" but you'll use none, which is just as broad brush. ;)

Of course I have - reference saying stupid things.

Suggesting I should not comment on Butlers racist and biggoted remarks is like saying I should ignore a neighborhood watchman shot and killed a young hoodlum despite that fact the hoodlums' parents can't grasp the way their child was living his life and that he may very well have been up to no good that night. We live - thus we comment - if you don't like the comment you are free to ignore just as I am free to comment. I'm glad you condemn her comments - it still seems like those who rush to the side of the left would prefer to attack the messenger rather than even address the message.

Obviously she's a fake liberal, real liberals don't believe God exists.

and lol "gov't employee?"

Ivy League schools (including UPenn) are PRIVATE institutions, for your edification. Good job getting your facts straight :doh

Good point.

She is actually said the "American" God. Which is really a different case.

In fact God is a white racist according to this govt employee.

I don't think that is exactly what she is saying, although I think what she actually said is worse, that a large section of America have had their religious beliefs corrupted so that they are inherently racist. She pretty much suggests that American Christianity is built on racism and capitalism. While I'm not really a huge fan of evangelical Christianity, I think that suggesting that this is what the base of the most deeply religious in this country believe is offensive and untrue.

Still, contrary to what a couple people in this thread have implied, this woman does not represent the majority of liberals. Hopefully only a small few.

Normal faux news misinterpretation.

As a black woman in an [sic] nation that has taken too many pains to remind me that I am not a white man, and am not capable of taking care of my reproductive rights, or my voting rights, I know that this American god ain’t my god.

“As a matter of fact, I think he’s a white racist god with a problem. More importantly, he is carrying a gun and stalking young black men,

Clearly she indicated the american concept of god. There are a lot of gods. One could make a good argument that the god jesus spoke of is not the god of the christian right, and clearly that is the argument she is making here. Many american religious christians view a supposedly peaceful and loving god as endorsing violence, war, hate, and the american way of life which probably wasn't even in the imagination of jesus back during his life on earth. In my readings of the bible i completely missed any reference to america, but perhaps I missed a page or two.

I would pretty much back her on the idea the american christian god is technically racist. That is if you consider the jewish people a race where instructions on slavery clearly do define different standards for the keeping of a jew as a slave than anyone else due to their nature as god's people. That would be a racist statement in the old testament. Aside from that there are many american religious beliefs that validate the racism of their believers, and try to claim it is god's view. So she does actually have a point to make which is valid when you consider the way many people use their religion against others. Of course, this can apply to other religions also which does not excuse the behavior.

. . . Does one guy speak for an entire undefined group of people? No, then trolling.

You'd have to take up this question with people who make their livings doing precisely that.

Al Sharpton, Nancy Pelosi, Harry reed, Jesse Jackson, and various other luminaries of the Left come immediately to the superior mind.

As already noted, she is not actually discussing the racial views of supernatural entities.

She's claiming that Americans often invoke God to back up their racist views and actions, and that Western racism is based on Christian beliefs.

I don't see why this constitutes a "threat" to anyone. Not to mention that everyone has the right to express his or her views, even if you personally find those views offensive.

well, even bright intelligent folks often say very stupid ****.... it seems as though her passions and racial bias has overridden her brain.

I'm not sure her " beliefs" are a good fit for a professor of religious studies... maybe she should move to african-american studies department instead of religion...or maybe the " I see racism everywhere" department ( that's the sociology department, correct?..tee hee)

and what her "belief " has to do with the zimmerman case is way beyond me... the case had little to do with God, or even race.

american god or another one doesnt change teh fact that the right will always abuse god and people's belief in god to increase the number of their capitals

who said god was capitalist and racist

according to bigots god always approves their sicky politics

Zimmerman said in an interview last July that he had no regrets, and that the outcome of that night's events was "God's plan."

She's reacting to the religious right justifying racist beliefs and actions based on their interpretation of their religion.

She is not literally saying "God is a racist." Unsurprisingly, that nuance was left out of the Fox News report.

Here's her actual blog post: The Zimmerman Acquittal: America?s Racist God | Religion Dispatches

Well, at least most liberals know the difference between "then" and "than".

Not surprising, thank you so much for posting this. I did glean that from what WAS posted but it will be great to see the whole article.
