Why do you suppose there's a desire on the part of some to split everyone into two camps over this?

Is dichotomy so ingrained that it's just too hard to conceive of people not needing to take opposing sides?

Or what's your theory?

I just think people want to be right. In order to be right, somebody else must be wrong.

It's because people are sheep who regurgitate what the media tells them. This is how the story is presented in the media.

If the court would allow the process to become a TV show with teams and t-shirts and applause and boos both families would make millions. America has slithered into television competition and "reality" shows. Politics and everything else has to be about your team winning. If your team wins you are validated BY TV - the American arbiter of truth and light - as being good and worthy. Same, same Martin and Zimmerman. Just another reality show for the sheeple.

The medium is the message. ~ Marshall McCluhan

It IS a debate site, so its kinda natural for people to take a side.

But as a society we seem to be "taking sides" a lot more lately.

From Team Edward to Team Obama to Team Zimmerman.

validated by TV. That's pretty funny way to say it.

First and foremost, George Zimmerman is innocent until proven guilty.

With that said, I believe this case will go to trial and he will be found guilty. Justice is blind, I take no sides in this.

I think that there is a mindset and belief life is a battle field and if you are not fully with us than you are against us and you must be destroyed. This theory does not just pertain to the Zimmerman case.
I sit on the outside or in the middle of many issues (like gay marriage, abortion). With the guilt or innocence of Zimmerman, I could not care any less. The thing that got to me about this case is the phenomenon that you brought up. The first thing that I noticed was that those that did not publicly call this a murder were called racist. This struck me as odd seeing as Zimmerman is Hispanic. Than after that point was brought up anyone that brought it up was defending a racist “White-Hispanic”.

For me it's...reading, the known independent evidence (witnesses, forensics, injuries) and my impression of *said* evidence is that it weighs quite heavily in Z's favor.

Its really that simple

For me is it the massive political involvement by politicians and millionaire media political talking heads corrupting the entire system and bring the full power of government down on one person hoping for political benefit, personal financial profit and being in the media spotlight by doing so. This is even before the President declared the most significant aspect of the case is that one of the two could be his surrogate son because of his race - at a time that he and Democrats were fretting of lackluster support among African Americans in Florida.

I don't give a **** about this case, let alone about people who are following this case, let alone what those people think about me for not following this case.

In this recession, I have a **** load of better things to do with my time.

To keep us divided so we never again create a culture of engagement that was created post WWII.

But as a society we seem to be "taking sides" a lot more lately.

Oh, boy, What If. Don't make the mistake of thinking that what happens on DP is indicative of the real world. I can go WEEKS never saying Obama's name aloud. I've never talked about the Zimmerman/Martin case off these boards. Oh, maybe a couple times to Tommy. Other than saying, "Wow, wasn't that awful about the Batman movie shooting?" nothing much has passed my lips with others about the incident.

We are media junkies. Let's just admit it and move on. ;)

I don’t see how this has anything to do with the subject at hand. Unless; you’re giving us all an example of what the original poster is talking about.

George Zimmerman had no rights or authority where TM was concerned.

Have you read the original post?

This is not about Martin or Zimmerman. This thread was created to ask the question; why do those that feel strongly about one side of an issue tend to demand that you take a side on that issue. It also says in the title to this thread that this is a question for those who do not support Zimmerman or Martin.

If you would like to add something to the discussion we would be glad to hear your thoughts on the original post.

Sharon usually disregards the actual discusson or thread in a fixation on expressions of attack, contempt and hatred of GZ and his family. Sharon is an elderly rich white Republican who openly had distain for the poor, blue collar and Latinos.

:eek:t Just another attempt by Sharon to derail a thread topic.

Both characters are memes folks can express their pre-existing political views through.

Neither side actually cares about the people or the incident itself.
