Trayvon Martin’s social media posts may come up at trial [W: 980]

So Zimmerman, who is part-Hispanic, doesn't like Mexicans.

As I recall he didn't shoot a Mexican....

Does everything have to be about race??

He is Peruvian and he is making remarks towards Mexicans. He may not even consider himself Hispanic, because most Latin people don't call themselves that except for Mexicans, from what I understand. Anyways, I don't think pointing out he is half means much. I believe that it's stereotypical that the Chinese don't like or get along with the Japanese because of their history. So this is nothing. Some ethnicity but it's an entirely different culture and identity within that ethnicity.

I don't really think his "hoe" remark matters at all. People say bad stuff about exes.

As for the felony thing....eh. If I were charged with something and got off I'd probably say something, too.

I thought that was pretty bad... and so were his remarks towards Mexican people. Obviously, he said a bunch of nasty and stupid crap on his Myspace. We all don't go around talking like that for a reason. Hint: that's because a lot of people would probably perceive that as racist and ignorant.

While social media remarks may indeed be "fair game" in a court of law....that does not mean that a judge or members of a jury will find those remarks as damning evidence against Zimmerman. I suspect it will be summarily dismissed by any judge that is not already biased in the case....since it has nothing to do with the case before the court.

It has a lot to do with his character and the type of person he is. I didn't read his page, but I think I read that he used the word "thug" a bunch on his website, and he was saying that on the 911 tape. He seems to have a very negative view and attitude towards certain people or types of people, he considers "thugs." Throwing his ex-hoe into the mix, he looks kind of bitter and angry.

So what you're saying (in essense and what I am getting out of it) is that they will make stuff up just to get a conviction. Is that really how you want our court system to work?
It isn't a matter of how one wants it to work.
On one hand you have how it is supposed to work.
On the other hand you have how it does work.
It is something you have to see to believe.

... your guess is no better than mine. Sorry to bust your bubble.
In a few weeks we will all know the answer.
No.
Sorry to bust your bubble. Your guess isn't as good as mine.
Mine is based on all the information that has come before. Your guess, not so much.

But we will see.

I'm just stuck on trying to figure out why him being Hispanic has any bearing on whether or not he "likes" Mexicans.

Pervians and Mexicans are different. It's like saying a German can't talk **** about Russians because they are both white. One is Slavic and the other is not. Peru is considered South America, Mexico is not. There are not the same, and I don't think Peruvians consider themselves Hispanic but I could be wrong.

Calling an ex-girlfriend a "hoe" isn't a big deal. I'm curious what the nature of his "talking about beating a felony rap" was because I'd like to know if he was just relieved or arrogantly boasting. And the comments about Mexicans are gross and they sound like a lot of ignorant Americans with xenophobic tendencies. Unfortunate.

I agree that his comments look and sound racist... why would somebody even post that publicly? That's a bad move.

But he isn't exactly on trail for being racist or not. This isn't going to send him to prison or anything, but I don't see how anybody can argue that his comments were acceptable and far from sounding racist.

And worse, wasn't she the one who kept telling ME I was making it about race?????!!!!!!!

Or was that Thunder, I can't remember. They're two slices of the same pie to me.

The irony works both ways... you either say person tweets and accounts are relevant or not

Who cares what Zimmerman thinks of Mexicans? Last I knew Trayvon was not Mexican so if Zimmerman did actually post this stuff then so what? Now if it had said something about blacks...you might have a point.

As for the "hoe" part...again so what? I know TONS of guys that have called their ex's hoe's. And worse.

And calling women hoes is not ok... it doesn't matter how many people are doing it, it's still wrong

Doesn't matter. You can't condemn a man for something that is acceptable in 100% of the populace and is not illegal to normal citizens. You start condemning people for profileing and stereotypeing then NO ONE will ever beable to claim self defense.

I don't even know what you're definition of profiling is... criminal profiling is different and all of us don't engage in criminal profiling

Actually we don't know if they were racist or not as we don't know the context. All that we have is one line about Mexicans that he ran into and something about calling his ex a "hoe" and about beating a felony charge. Thats it. For the Mexican thing...for all we know every Mexican that he ran across DID pull a knife on him. Which could be possible if Zimmerman lived in a gang area or lived in an area where the only Mexicans around were violent.

Every Mexican pulled a knife of him... lol... The probability of that is very, very low. If anybody is going on like that, people are reasonably going to take it as racist and think he is some kind of idiot or asshole. He definitely doesn't sound very friendly.

It might be low for you. Where do you live? Where did Zimmerman live when he wrote what he did? I gave you two scenario's where it is quite possible. For example I live in an area where there are very few Mexicans. None of them are violent. As such the probability of it happening to me is low also. But I also lived in an area quite a few years ago where if you went out you dared not do so alone...or even with one other person (needed a group). The probability of it happening then was very high. (actually the probability was for guns)

So without context we really don't know if it was racist or not. We also do not know if he applied that line of thought to EVERY Mexican...we do know he applied it to the ones that he met though.

Zimmerman is starting to look like the kind of guy nothing goes well for, but doesn't realize his attitude has a lot to do with it... He just got off the hook and instead of being thankful, he is complaining about the Mexicans with knifes, thugs, or his exhoe.

Looking at that, I'd say he is troubled...

If this case weren't so highly publicized, I could just imagine Zimmerman's Facebook update when he beats this charge....

I was in a really rough neighborhood last night. Popeye's chicken serves you through bulletproof glass with a rotating tray in this neighborhood. It's not a white neighborhood.

And every single time I go there, every single black guy tries to rob me.

That's how ALL the black people act in ghetto...

Realizing that you're being sarcastic here but do you see your qualifier in your post? "ALL the black people act in the ghetto"? Can you show me where Zimmerman applied a generality like that? He was specific, he limited his statement to the Mexicans that he met.

See, context matters.

He applied it to all the Mexicans he met. I didn't apply it to all black people either, just the one's I met in the ghetto.

No you didn't apply it to only the ones that you met in the ghetto...you just said "That's how ALL the black people act in ghetto...". That is completely different from just refering to the ones that you personally met.

And yes he did apply it to all the Mexicans he met. That is not in doubt. What is in doubt is whether all the Mexicans he met at the time did in fact pull knives on him or not. Neither one of us know if that is factually correct or not. You are basing your assumption that such a thing is a "low, low proability" of happening (no doubt based upon personal experiance). I've not made any assumptions. I have shown you a few examples where it is possible in order to show you that we don't know the context of the provided statement and as such should not make assumptions.

Again, context is everything.

Because it's possible that EVERY mexican he met pulled a knife on him

And you're implying that all Mexicans pull knifes on Zimmerman... what's the difference

No I am not. I'm implying that it is possible that every Mexican that he has ever met in that area has pulled a knife on him. For all we know at that point in time he had only met 2-3 Mexicans in that area...or hell...in his whole life. Again, context is everything.

You really need to learn the difference between "All Mexicans" and "All Mexicans that a person has met".

The Miami Herald reported that Zimmerman had a Myspace social media account where he wrote insulting remarks about Mexicans.

He referred to an ex-girlfriend as a “hoe,” talked about beating a felony rap and complained that every Mexican he ran into pulled a knife on him. One line suggested that friends went to jail rather than snitch on him.

“Workin 96 hours to get a decent pay check, gettin knifes pulled on you by every mexican you run into!” Zimmerman wrote.

Sounds like out of context garbage to me. I say leave it alone. The Travon thing has run its course.

there really isn't a difference in what is being said. Why not argue the same point in my favor, that every black person I met in the neighborhood tried to rob me?
