In associated with the United States Pirate Party and the international Pirate Party movement, I am attempting to form a Wyoming Pirate Party. As for right now, the Wyoming Pirate Party is me, two of my kinsmen, and a Facebook page, but this Spring I am planning on taking a tour of the State's colleges and hackerspaces to raise awareness of the Pirate Party and how its issues affect people in the State of Wyoming.

If there are any people here in the Wyoming area, please feel free to like our page and introduce yourself.

Why not!

The Pirates have made inroads in Europe, and have even been successfully passing legislation in some of the Northern Euro countries. Of course this is far easier in parliamentary systems (something I wish we had), but hey give it a shot. I love seeing grassroots organizing.

Good luck!

Real cool looking Facebook Page - well done.

One of my sons is a real big fan of the Pirate Party in Europe and talks about them all the time.

Good luck, and keep us updated!!!

I don't know a lot about the Pirate Party, but I always thought that they were a left-leaning libertarian organization. How would that square with your classical Fascist ideology, Viktyr?

I've realized that Fascism and centralized authority are not the ideal methods to produce the results I want within society. The truth is an inevitable casualty of the propaganda state, and when the state starts believing the products of its own hype machine, it loses touch with reality and can no longer effectively govern. I am still uncomfortable with the level of disorder tolerated within a liberal state, but authoritarian philosophies are simply too prone to cultivating cancerous irrational beliefs to be effective.

I still believe in a discipline-driven society, but I believe that discipline has to arise from the foundations of society to be effective; if it is imposed from above, the rulers will inevitably neglect to impose it upon themselves.

I've changed my lean to Left-Libertarian to reflect this shift in philosophies. I still believe that every citizen has a moral obligation to the Nation, and thus when the State is operating properly, to the State. While it regrettably leads to many individuals serving the Nation only minimally-- if at all-- I believe it is necessary to allow each individual citizen the freedom to decide how and where they will serve the Nation, with the State taking a more supporting role in giving individuals the tools to contribute and encouraging a proper, positive moral attitude. I have always believed in the innate goodness of humanity, but my distaste for disorder has always prevented me from wholly embracing a liberal worldview; I am learning to trust, against my instincts, that grassroots innovation and leadership are more efficient than top-down models of authority.

That's what appeals to me most about the Pirate Party. It offers the maximum freedom for the individual to choose how and where to contribute to society, while ensuring that they always have access to the tools to do so. Out of all of the political philosophies I have encountered, it is the one I believe best enables the innate goodness of humanity to manifest itself.

Good luck. I think people getting involved in this way is a great thing.

What's your long term goal? Do you you want to become a dominant party or just have enough influence to sway the majors?

Do you think it will be hard to let all the 1500 or so people who live in Wyoming know about the idea? If they don't have the internet I guess you'll have to do a lot of driving. ;)

My long term goal is to see Pirate philosophy take hold in society and for Pirate policies to be implemented by the government. I don't care if that happens because we win elections or if that happens because other parties steal our ideas; the important thing to me is that society moves in the direction it needs to move in, and that I have made meaningful contributions to bring that about. I want to see electoral reforms that allow multiple parties to function simultaneously in our government, but that is not because I want the Pirate Party itself to hold more offices... but because ideological diversity is itself a Pirate Party goal, because it allows the best ideas to rise to the top.

My short-term goal is to build up a voter base of Pirates in Wyoming. My medium-term goal is to get Wyoming Pirate candidates into local offices. I've got a particular obsession with school boards.

I'm planning on a busy Spring after I buy a car. But I'm going to be focusing most of my efforts on Laramie and Cheyenne.

Any plans to send sappers into the majors via the precinct project?

Any plans to infiltrate the majors in order to build "outside" support for your positions?

It seems to me that having enough people to pursue that strategy, we would be better served by keeping them within the party and supporting us directly.

Oh interesting. I'm a big fan of individual discipline, and of the idea that a society based on cooperation, equality, tolerance, and a sensible work ethic will produce a healthy society at peace with itself and its neighbours, however I also believe a degree of creative anarchy will help people achieve a degree of self-actualisation that is positive and fulfilling for individuals and communities alike.

I don't know very much about the Pirate Party as they don't exist in Spain, but I do quite like what I've read about them in Scandinavia and northern Europe.

Good luck to you.

There's a Pirate Party in Spain... they just haven't achieved the same electoral success as the parties in Northern Europe.

I think the best way to learn what the Pirate Party stands for is to read Falkvinge's Pirate Wheel.

Any resemblance to the German Pirate Party?

They're a part of the same movement, yes.

Interesting. The Pirate Party of Germany didn't get much steam going, but hey, you never know how things can pan out.

My only question is do I get an eye patch and a parrot when I join?

The best of luck to you my good sir, we need parties like this, that don't have corporate jammed up the rear, that wan't to protect the people's rights, that wan't to help their constituents, not their corporate daddies.

I salute you, keep up the good fight.
