On the Howard Stern shown (on Sirius Satellite Radio) today his comedic sidekick, Artie Lange, talked about his recent USO tour to entertain the troops in Afghanistan.
What he said he learned was that the Afghan people think in terms of hundreds of years rather than in 4 year spans of time. And that the Taliban is telling the farmers, villagers and 'regular' citizens of Afghanistan that when you hear US Presidential candidate, Barack Obama, promising to pull the US troops out of Afghanistan that works in the Taliban's favor.
He said the Taliban tells the people that when the Americans leave they will no longer be able to protect you. In essence Artie's message of what he heard was that the Taliban says, 'we will be here after the American leave so you, Mr. Peasant, should not co-operate with the Americans or else we will slay you as though you are a disbeliever.'
As a result of the trip Artie is no longer leaning toward voting for Obama.
And that is what makes me believe that if the McCain campaign simply gets the truth out about the GWOT such as what Artie said above, for example, he should have no problem in winning the election in November.
Any others with comments about Artie, Gary, Jim Florentine and Nick DiPaolo's trip, feel free to post them here. |

Or at least spend huge amounts of money on maintaining our military presence in the Middle East, so that we can protect non-citizens of the United States for an indefinate amount of time.
ESPECIALLY when information like this comes from a comedian, and ESPECIALLY when it comes from the Howard Stern show.

Lean: Independent Gender: Awards: | Re: Tales of Howard Stern's Sidekick Artie's Afghanistan Trip I'm glad to hear that Afghanis are willing to abdigate personal responsibility for their country forever. We might as well rename it "Lil America".
Of course, if this person is in the minority, should we be willing to usurp majority rule in Afghanistan? |

It's a plan that has worked so well for empire after empire in the past. Just look at the Soviets for a recent example of the stunning success of such attempts to remain there permanently. Wait a minute!
Or, conversely we could just focus on helping the non-Talibanis be more powerful than the Talibanis and then it won't matter if the foreign military forces leave.

OR Quote:
Some of the troops now in Iraq should be sent to Afghanistan
From a CNN Report:
Some of the troops now in Iraq should be sent to Afghanistan, where he said the Iraq war has had "disastrous consequences" for the battle against the al Qaeda terrorist network.
| Quote:
Also, from Obama's Iraq War De-escalation Act of 2007:
De-escalates the War with Phased Redeployment: Commences a phased redeployment of U.S. troops out of Iraq not later than May 1, 2007, with the goal that all combat brigades redeploy from Iraq by March 31, 2008, a date consistent with the expectation of the Iraq Study Group. This redeployment will be both substantial and gradual, and will be planned and implemented by military commanders. Makes clear that Congress believes troops should be redeployed to the United States; to Afghanistan; and to other points in the region. A residual U.S. presence may remain in Iraq for force protection, training of Iraqi security forces, and pursuit of international terrorists.

They only exist because Bush wimped out. Their opinions are of no concern, especially when it comes to our political process.
