Baqerzadeh added that the decision is in line with the Islamic Republic's commitment to comply with the Geneva Convention and the additional protocol regarding wartime cooperation between Iran and the Red Cross.
| I hate war. I never heard of anyone saying "We are digging your graves as we speak" before the war started.

What happened the last time Iran closed the Straights of Hormuz, where 20% of the world's oil supply has to travel?

I guess this way they won't be getting bogged down having to dig those grave plots while in the middle of a conflict. |

Current Mood: | Re: Iran 'digging 320,000 graves for invaders' How difficult is it to sink a ship with a shoulder missle from 20 Miles from a cave?
"We may be about to see anotherturning point, if our Navy is forced to 'open' the Straights of Hormuz, in the face of 100s of Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles.Â
This is what Iran bought those missilesfor. Iran has over 600 miles of coastline that is in point-blank missile range of the Persian gulf and Gulf of Oman shipping lanes. Iranian Sunburns, Silkworms and Exocets are on mobile launchers, hidden in caves and warehouses throughout a million square miles of mountainous cliffy terrain. The mobile missiles only need a spotter with eyes on the Hormuz, and a wire phone link to the cave. They will have "standing orders" to remain concealed and will still be launching salvos of missiles at our ships and oil tankers in that narrow space." Iran: We'll Shut Down Straits of Hormuz
"The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway separating the Arabian Gulf from the Gulf of Oman and the North Arabian Sea, is only about 40 miles wide, and is 34 miles wide at its narrowest point. By far the world's most important oil chokepoint, the Strait consists of 2-mile wide channels for inbound and outbound tanker traffic, as well as a 2-mile wide buffer zone.
The Persian Gulf is a shallow, semienclosed basin with a mean depth of only 25 to 40 m." Arabian Gauntlet / OPLAN 1019
Ships have a 6 mile corridor for travel in the 34 mile wide Strait of Hormuz.
Seems like easy missle targets to me. Once a few ships are sunk in 75 feet of water, other ships will not be able to pass.

Current Mood: | Re: Iran 'digging 320,000 graves for invaders' Irans plans to close the Strait of Hormuz have been developed for some time.
Mines were emphasized in 2001. Iran Readies Plan to Close Strait of Hormuz
Iran last mined the Gulf in 87-88, and damaged several ships. This was with 1915 type mines. China sold Iran EM-53 mines in the 90's. The EM-53 mines fire missles from close to the bottom of the ocean. Strait of Hormuz
Iran hit a couple hundred ships, and seriously damaged 20 ships in the 87-88 conflict. Today, Iran's mobile missles wil do considerabley more damage. The US Navy will have little defense against missles form a hundred miles of mountains.
