Former Military Chief: Iraq War Was A 'Failure' That Helped Create ISIS

Who said anything about a free for all? You don't prosecute a war with both hands tied behind your soldiers backs.

We fought a war with our soldiers "hands tied behind their backs"? I wonder how 500,000-1,000,000 Iraqis died

1.)"who was cleared for release by the Bush administration in 2007".... Remember, Obama took office in 2009?
2.)"the CIA and FBI, reputedly agreed he no longer posed a threat to the United States or its allies.... Shalabi “does not remain necessary to protect against a continuing significant threat to the security of the United States....
3.)"He was cleared for release in 2007 when the Bush administration acknowledged it had no evidence against him." British Guantanamo inmate on hunger strike - BBC News
4.)"the UK Government has spent £274,345 fighting Aamer in court, including preventing his lawyers viewing evidence that may prove his innocence and end more than a decade in US custody." Letters raise fears for last Briton in Guantanamo | Americas | News | The Independent

Also wondering what this has to do with ISIS and Iraq....

Isnt this thread about ISIS?

My entire point was about OBAMA'S blunders and what the good Lt Gen,. thought of them.

So instead of trying to deflect by attacking a poster, why not answer this...do you think invading Iraq helped create ISIS?

Yes or no?

I see it as a counter attack but, considering how many different clans of terrorist their are in the world, who knows what caused what to blossom.

For example, Boko Haram recently passed ISIS recently in number of kills. Who made them?

Is that a 'yes' or a 'no'?

BTW - you do realize that many of ISIS's leaders are former Iraqi military officers?

It's neither.

This is a more complex situation than who created one of these groups . There are an incalculable number of players at work in all parts of the world.

IMO, it serves no purpose to cast blame on a single country or individual.

No, you attacked the poster on your first post in this thread, rather than craft a cogent defense of the actual topic.

factually speaking... no... the invasion of Iraq did not create ISIS.

it did, however, benefit them in many aspects, notably facilitating their growth by bring them together with a few other groups of Islamic extremists.

in addition, leaving Iraq prematurely also benefited ISIS in many aspects.. including facilitated their further growth.

Now that you've blamed Bush (and the entire Senate) yet again, go on go on being an apologist for ISIS.

There're more idiots to blame than just the politicos.
Don't forget to blame the hateful, loud-mouthed idiots who shouted down opposition to the invasion as being un-American.
Don't forget to blame all the members of the electorate who bought the idea that we needed to protect ourselves from a country which was not likely to attack us.
That's just for starters.
There're plenty more idiots who promoted the invasion of Iraq.

So you then attack me for a differing opinion?

How am I attacking you for pointing out a simple truth? You didn't offer an opinion, you attacked the poster.

Discuss the topic, not the poster.

More idiots than we know.

I admitted to a counter attack. I get sick of seeing the same old rhetoric from the past that changes nothing in the present. [or the future]

This lack of stomach for hard methods is probably one of the main problems we have had in bringing our military engagements to satisfactory conclusion.
This is a relatively popular theory on the int4rwebz.
It's not what is in the lessons learned reports from the military though.

Perhaps the int4rwebz know the military's business better than the military.

that could happen

We wasted trillions in Iraq. That money could have bought a lot of nice, needed things in this country. Invading Iraq was a huge mistake, and we are paying for it now.

Blame the Powers that Be. They like keeping us at each other's throats, in a constant state of chaos.

As far as the 'trillions', consider it redistribution.

Redistribution to the defense contractors that donate to campaigns.

Waste of money, waste of lives, and a huge blunder. We had no reason to go into Iraq, that is quite obvious now.

Then why did you present this mans case as a "blunder"?

Bush and all the Senate Dems.

Obama has released or traded for many high profile individuals that have come back to haunt us.

It's like you live in a dream world...

Where have we ever generally applied the methods dictators are successful at pacification with?

The continental US for one.

But the point being that what the int4rwebz considers good military practice is often markedly different from what the military considers best practice.
It's possible that the int4rwebz opinions are the more informed and useful ones.

People actually do work for those contractors ya know.

My point is war is profitable and they will happen regardless what we think or do. [well ...almost anything]

Yeah, and all that dough spent on bombs which did nothing (but kill people) was wasted.

Think of all the good things that money could have bought.
