I'll start us off, with a short video from the US Military Academy (ARMY) football game yesterday:

People do realize this is exactly what ISIS wanted to happen when they planned those attacks, right? I'm not saying France shouldn't strike back. It is their right. Just go into it knowing that ISIS is playing you like a puppet.

I can't do much to support the military but I am most likely going to go to Paris and Europe for my vacation at the end of the year. I flew on a plane and went to Disney World for the first time the week after 9/11. The more I think about this, the more it makes sense. If anything Paris will be unbelievably safe right now and I'll help their economy

They're not playing me, or France, or even NATO (I know what you mean though, that they want western troops on the ground so they can shed their blood in their Caliphate). Did you read the article in post 2 above? They need to be eradicated from the face of the Earth. If that's what they want, then that's what they should get.

My hope is that NATO Article 5 is invoked by France, and that the NATO forces go in with one goal and one goal only - eradication of the enemy. No bleeding heart feelings or emotionally written rules of engagement - surround the enemy with an overwhelming and deadly force, then kill them all and destroy their assets so no one else can pick them up and continue the fight.

This will take more than a generation to accomplish, because that land will have to be either occupied by the west, or a brutal overlord (like Gadhafi or Saddam) put in place over them to keep them under control. A free and open society is not possible over there right now because it is not compatible with the 7th century culture that exists.

Great idea. I responded to your vacation idea thread, but I think you nailed it right here.

Forget lighting candles, just hit them hard.

I find it interesting to read responses like yours, because I find it difficult to believe you somehow have an exact and clear understanding of what motivates Daesh leadership.

Is it possible that Daesh attacks because they believe any retribution will continue to be limited? Is it possible these attacks will ramp up to insure the limited response will continue?

The only problem is, that Article 5 has already been asked for once before against ISIS.

Back in 2012 Turkey was on the verge of asking for such a declaration, and the Secretary-General of NATO basically told them it would not happen. And I am not sure that Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg would behave any differently. "Sorry, do what you think needs to be done France, but do not expect NATO to do anything to help".

You may be correct, since the White House is so apposed to going into anywhere on the ground.

One of the main reasons that NATO turned down Turkey, was because they also wanted NATO to help with the Kurds (PKK and YPG) although the Kurds were the main organized and successful force fighting ISIS on the ground.
