according to the NYPD there is more gun violence over pot than other drugs.

no one that advocates any of the pro-drug argument would spend 1 week let alone 1 day living in a drug infested neighborhood. in fact we all know where those are
and we avoid them at all costs.

Legalizing it would greatly reduce this.

Re: Marijuana is literally the least of the nation’s drug worries, the police have an

Prohibition doesn't help negate drug abuse; it only hides it until it erupts onto society in one form or another.

I agree with this with almost every other drug except meth. I can't imagine making legal something so heinous.

So do you think a drug's legal status should be linked to its toxicity? Or its heinousness?

Re: Marijuana is literally the least of the nation’s drug worries, the police have an

I predict marijuana being legal for recreational use in 10-15 years. Used to think it would take 20-30 years, but progress is speeding up.
In the early 1980s I predicted marijuana would be legal by 1990. My thoughts were that the majority of people seemed to be casual users, saw no real harm in it, and would eventually grow older and become the nation's leaders. They would remember that marijuana was certainly not the great scourge portrayed.

Didn't happen. They grew older, became the nation's leaders, and bought into the same old crap.

I still think it will be legalized at some point, but am unwilling to put a time frame on it.

It is stunning how many people in Western culture require self-medication.
There's a myopic point of view. Fact is that every society engages in mind-altering substances of some kind. It's a human condition, not a solely... or even primarily... Western one.

Re: Marijuana is literally the least of the nation’s drug worries, the police have an

It isn't just drugs that are the issue it is all the other crap that goes along with it.

job loss
poverty
destruction of the family
murder
suicide

pretty much everything negative you can imagine goes along with it.
that doesn't include the terror that the gangs and cartels pushing the stuff bring.

The vast majority of all of that would disappear if it were legalized. It's not the use of marijuana that causes most of that stuff, it's the current legal status that is the cause.

I understand I'm being subjective. Meth is dangerous to cook and puts it's producers and any neighbors at great risk. Also I don't know any casual meth users, only full blown addicts that are no longer able to lead any semblance of a normal life.

Re: Marijuana is literally the least of the nation’s drug worries, the police have an

Yes, I'm uncomfortable with it. However, I do understand it has it's place as an effective prescription drug.

Yes, this shows that the 'meth culture' as we know it is very much one of the many social pathologies created by our short-sighted drug policy of prohibition.

The drug CAN be produced safely under a legal scenario.

It is prohibition that causes it to be produced and sold as we see with Breaking Bad and other depictions.

Re: Marijuana is literally the least of the nation’s drug worries, the police have an

Nobody worries much about pot.

But the crime that goes with delivering the pot is a big problem.

Then legalize it and "weed" out the middle man. Many middle men also peddle other drugs, which is how a buddy of mine became addicted to heroin when he smoked marijuana laced with it. Buy directly from the shop and kill the illegal marijuana trade. Drug cartels worst nightmare.

Well the Feds don't want to, and most of the states don't want to either.

It's just a few states here and there who will.

Best thing for you is move to one of those states.

Prosecuting reefer has always been a joke especially when you got hauled in for a joint butt in your ashtray.
