| What the American Peoples’ Current Views on Iraq Should be? If America is to do what is responsible for the balance of this year on Iraq, many Americans especially those in Congress are going to have to display a lot of character and tact from the course they have been taking on Iraq. Most Americans have been saying that the country has to bring the troops home from Iraq, continue the troop drawdown until all the troops are home. The details coming out of Iraq indicate we can’t do that, the security situation in Iraq is too fragile. There is still too many groups in Iraq promulgating violence, there is still too many places in Iraq where if the U.S. troops weren’t around they could turn into areas where large scale violence prevails. As hard as it will be the American people should support the military leaderships call to suspend the drawdown of U.S. troops from Iraq after the surge troop drawdown is complete come July and support keeping fifteen brigades of U.S. troops in Iraq through December of 2008. To that end the American people should support members of Congress passing the $ 80 or so billion Iraq War Supplemental bill needed to fund the Iraq and Afghanistan wars through fiscal year 2008., let our country not be dragged through a game of chicken between the Congress and the White House over this supplemental bill with the White House threatening to cause the layoffs of thousands of Americans working for U.S. military contractors if they don’t get the funding, let us all act responsibly here.
The American people and the American government have to get really tough on these people behind these suicide and other bombings that kill U.S. soldiers in Iraq, we fail these soldiers and their families when we don’t. In all probability the countries of Iran and/or Syria are morally culpable here, they are probably aiding or abetting directly or indirectly these militant groups in Iraq. Besides standing up for American lives being killed as a result of this Iran an/or Syria wrongdoing, this materially assisting of these militant groups by Iran and/or Iraq cannot be tolerated by the U.S.. The security situation in Iraq is too fragile these militant groups activities cause an unacceptable risk of causing large scale sectarian violence in Iraq and if Iraq slips back into that state, the country of Iraq is over, there will be no second surge on the U.S. part the American people don’t have the will for it. The country of Iraq cannot withstand one or more series of events that have the meaning of the Golden Dome Mosque bombing in terms of inflaming violence between Shiite and Sunni Iraqis and to be concise this is the specific strategy of some of these militant groups operating in Iraq. The bottom line on the Iran and Syria issues is that if it is proven they are currently training or arming these militant groups, the U.S. government should accumulate the evidence and present it to the American people. The operable words here are currently and proven. There needs to be no body to make a legal finding that it is proven; however, there has to be such proof that reasonable people throughout the world throughout history will conclude the U.S. acted morally when it takes military action on the matter, the American people need no repeat of the “weapons of mass destruction” intelligence blunder. Once it is proven that Iran is currently arming and/or training one or more militant groups in Iraq, the U.S. must strike back against Iran with a large scale bombing campaign. The time for diplomacy or a small scale bombing mission to send Iran a message to solve the Iran interference problem is over, we are at the stage in Iraq where this is the country of Iraq’s last chance to succeed and the security situation in Iraq can’t tolerate Iran’s instigation of violence in Iraq, our country’s obligation to all what the Iraqi people, the American people and the people from our coalition partner countries have vested in the country of Iraq demand that the U.S. eliminate the Iran military interference in Iraq problem. To offer further details on what a U.S. bombing campaign should look like it should involve an eighteen to twenty-four hour bombing campaign on the country of Iran with the use planes like the U.S. B-52 bomber. What has been described for the country of Iran should be the same for the country of Syria if the country of Syria is found to be involved in such wrongdoing.
As stated the American people should support the suspension of the U.S. troop drawdown in Iraq initiating in July of this year. However, it needs to be said that in all probability the American people are very disappointed in the U.S. and Iraqi military leaders that they can’t generate an Iraqi security force to replace U.S. soldiers performing security functions in Iraqi cities like Baghdad. It is understood that Iraq is a very sectarian society and Iraqis have a strong loyalty to their tribe and sect and it is difficult to build a security force with this population that can gain the trust of local Iraqis but the job needs to get done or Iraq will never be able to handle its own security. When the U.S. military next reports to Congress and gives their recommendation to suspend the troop drawdown in Iraq they really need to have a plan that will succeed on how to build local Iraqi security forces made up of local Iraqis that are loyal to the Iraqi national government. Moreover, common sense would indicate that the best way to stop these bombers in Iraq is to have a strong local police force made up of local Iraqis who can utilize their extensive contacts in the community to identify and capture these terrorists before they commit their acts of terrorism. |
