It is more accurate to call the US actions in Iraq, Occupation, rather than a "War". War sounds more glorious, but occupation is more of a fact in terms of the resentment of Iraqis, and the underground resistance, similar to the reistance to the Nazi occupation of France and Poland.
Occupation speaks more to the reasons the US invaded Iraq, was to control the harbors and oil resources for the Western economies.
The Neocons feel that the US Military and CIA should be doing more to assist business interests of multi-national coporations.
Alan Greenspan's book,
The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World discusses the Bush policies on oil supply assistance by the US military and CIA.
"The Iraq war is largely about oil," former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan says in his new book -- "
"Whatever their publicized angst over Saddam Hussein's 'weapons of mass destruction,' American and British authorities were also concerned about violence in an area that harbors a resource indispensable for the functioning of the world economy,"
"he [Greenspan] had presented the White House with a case for why removing Hussein was important for the global economy."

Terrorist are not a problem for the US. Terrorists provid a convenient excuse for Military and CIA Intervention and large budgets. Also justifying increased spying on the true enemies of the Neocons, the Peace Activists.
Bin Laden is part of the "Terrorists are like a bowl of fruit" Rumsfeld quote from Woodward. Terrorists are the justification the Neocons need for increased CIA an US military adventures.
Bush's administration planned to invade Iraq since the last Gulf war. 9-11 was just a convenient excuse, not a cause. The Neocons and the oil are the cause of the Iraq War.
