Update: See Miss Manners on the protocol. Americans do not bow to foreign monarchs because that act signified the monarch's power over his subjects.
American Thinker Blog: Obama bows down to Saudi King (updated)

Presidents do not bow.

I guess O is proving something about himself here.

I guess O is proving something about himself here.
Proving several things:
  1. He is ignorant of this nation's history.
  2. He is ignorant of proper protocol for foreign relations.
  3. He is unwilling to subdue his seeming relentless need to ingratiate to the demands of the office he holds.
  4. He has a singular inability to grasp the symbolism and relevance of even basic gestures.

Additionally, based on this 2005 LA Times article, he insulted the Saudi King with his bow:
"Kissing hands is alien to our values and morals, and is not accepted by free and noble souls," Abdullah told a delegation from Baha, in southwest Saudi Arabia, which came to the royal palace to offer congratulations on his accession. "It also leads to bowing, which is a violation of God's law. The faithful bow to no one but God."

Can't say I believe Barry did the right thing here, but his presidency must be going very well, if the worst his detractors can come up with are a bow, a gift the queen, use of the teleprompter, US-formatted dvds, etc.

If that were the worst, you would have a point.

The tragedy, is that this artless, graceless, classless, clueless performance on the world stage is his "best".

....a doomed "stimulus", a horrible spending bill, closing Git’mo, gave terrorists a time-line for our withdraw, nationalized healthcare...increased taxes, broken tax-cut promises, the list goes on and on...no, this isn't the only thing, this is just the latest headline.

You would do well to stop assuming that we absolutely MUST include each and every single blunder in every thread.

It's not the first time. I recall both Clinton and Bush bowing with the Japanese Prime Minister. Right now it's impossible to google with any accuracy whether either of them ever bowed before the Saudis since a million Obama/bow stories come up. But I wouldn't be surprised. I don't ever remember hearing that Presidents don't bow and in fact I've seen them do it more than once. I remember the Japanese but don't recall others off the top of my head. I'm ALMOST POSITIVE Bush did bow for the Queen. I think I remember seeing that. I'll look it up.

 will you be adding to this list throughout his entire presidency? you may have to break it up into a couple posts at this point.

as for the picture, He embarrasses our nation here. What a fool.

bowing in japan is custom, like shaking hands.

bowing in islam is an insult to allah, i believe.... he is full up doing a courtsey......

btw..... he must have some advisors that are ****ing with him.... this cant be an accident any more. :lamo

Here's Bush prostrating himself before the pope.
bush_bow.jpg

  1. The pope is not a monarch, but a spiritual leader
  2. A mild bow of the head and neck is a gesture of respect, not subservience. Dear Leader's bow from the waist was a bow of subservience.
  3. Bush is widely known as a devout Christian

....a doomed "stimulus",
if you listen to Ramsey (and I assume you do according to your avatar) you'll know what he has to say about using crystal balls.

a horrible spending bill,
opinion.

closing Git’mo,
a ****ing great thing.

gave terrorists a time-line for our withdraw,
identifying an unconventional enemy by the the tactics which they use, and not by whom they are, is ridiculous. we'll either be there to step on their improvised devices, or we won't be. it was inevitable. i say bravo for getting the hell out.

nationalized healthcare...
another great thing, so long as it is done well. it works for post offices and libraries. not to mention in other countries.

increased taxes,
for a small percentage of us. and necessary, i might add.

broken tax-cut promises,
sometimes reality gets in the way.

the list goes on and on...
these are blunders how? you only don't prefer them.

I've made no assumptions. Just reporting observations I've made here lately at this website:

his presidency must be going very well, IF the worst his detractors can come up with are a bow, a gift the queen, use of the teleprompter, US-formatted dvds, etc.

This is a spiritual thing, not a peer thing. And it is customary for Japanese to bow to each other. "When in Rome," as they say. Bowing to a Saudi is messed up. I don't believe those examples were. The Saudis are not our friends. But bowing to the Saudi king or whatever he is, is right up there with rubbing Merkel's shoulders. Big whoop.

The pope is a head of state ruling over Vatican City.

The pope is a head of state ruling over Vatican City.
The Pope presents himself, and is principally perceived as, the spiritual head of the Roman Catholic Church. HH Pope Benedict XVI, by virtue of his office, sovereign of the State of the Vatican City, but foreign relations involving the Pope are conducted through the Holy See (which administers foreign relations for the Vatican City State as well). Thus, the Pope receives dignitaries as a spiritual rather than political figure.

You approve of the President of the United States insulting foreign leaders....how very....cosmopolitan of you.

I'm no fan of Obama, but jesus christ... get a grip. He bowed. I really don't give a ****.

I was praying to god that this was a left over April Fools thread.

Please tell me that none of you actually care about this asinine ****.

I guess after hearing what some believe the Sec of State did to the Pres of China this is not as out of line as some may also think, and lets not forget the Saudis have done their share of handling our debt as well.

I did find one of the comments from a you tube member interesting.

This is not a US President bowing to a Saudi King, this is a muslim peon bowing before a muslim king. Obama is an embarrassment to all Americans.
