Soldiers living in deplorable conditions

Quote:
The YouTube video shows paint peeling and falling from exposed pipes in the barracks, mildewed ceilings and showers, a toilet seat torn in half and a soldier standing on a sink trying to unplug a bathroom drain. Sewage appears to cover the bathroom floor.

The video was made by Edward Frawley, the father of a sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division who returned from Afghanistan on April 13 and is among the soldiers now living in the barracks.

“These solders spent 15 long, hard, difficult months in some of the most remote, dangerous areas of the mountains of Afghanistan,” Frawley says in the video. “They didn’t complain, they just did their job. Now you are going to see what we did for them when they returned home.”

From ABC

Quote:
The soldier's father posted pictures on You Tube that show peeling paint, mold and broken toilet seats in bathrooms. There are pipes stuffed with paper to prevent gases from seeping in.

The command says the unit returned home a month earlier than expected and not giving Bragg enough time to repair the problems.

The article states:
Quote:
The command says the unit returned home a month earlier than expected and not giving Bragg enough time to repair the problems
.....but in the video Ed Fawley states new barracks have been promised for years.

The repairs would have been completed within a month??

I don't think so.........

Re: Soldiers living in deplorable conditions

For whatever reasons, the Army is horrible in regards to the barracks and living conditions for the soliders. The Navy and Marine Corps can be hit or miss, but generally do an ok job in this regard. The Air Force lives it up better than anybody in the other branches.

That's just plain baaaaaaaad. There's no excuse whatsoever for a US military barracks to look so shabby and funky.

There really isn't. It pisses me off that our soldiers keep getting screwed.

.......and the "patriots" continue to wear their lapel pins and talk about supporting our troops.

Re: Soldiers living in deplorable conditions

The fault isn't the army's really. It lies mainly with the Civil Service people who by law maintain the barracks. They get a fair wage and like almost all Civil Service pukes, do nothing for it. Its against rules for a soldier to paint of repair a barracks or other building on a US base in the United States. Benn there, done that. Same people who let Walter Reed Hospital go to hell.

And what about the barracks commander? IIRC, the commander of Walter Reed was sacked for his incompetence.
