President Barack Obama says his administration will continue releasing terrorists from the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, so long as those released are less dangerous than the jihadists currently fighting against the U.S. and its interests.

The bizarre argument comes in a new interview with Olivier Knox of Yahoo! News and is one of several comments in their discussion that reinforces the president's stubborn nonchalance on issues related to jihad. Obama also shrugs off concerns about recidivism of former Guantanamo detainees, suggesting that only a "handful" of former detainees have returned to the fight and claiming that only "low-level" terrorists have been released from the detention facility. Both claims are demonstrably false.

Well, he did promise to close the place. He now knows how misbegotten the promise was, but feels he must do, what his voters want. He is really very sad.

It was George ****ing Bush that started this ****, which has caused an increase in global terror and made the world less safe. Obama's policies haven't been any better true. But why don't you stop being a partisan hack, and start being honest with your criticisms, hmm?

The type of trail most severely stacked against a defendant held by authorities of this country is the military tribunal. If everyone in Gitmo was a terrorist, it should have been easy to convict them all. If we did not think we could convict them, they should have been let go.

In my book, fear does not justify injustice.

America greatly shamed itself by adopting the practice of secretive indefinite detention most common to the realms of tyrants.....

....but not in the eyes citizens who have a powerful fear response, of course.

Sheesh, just thinking about the damage republicans did during Bush's reign gives me a headache. We don't need a repeat.

Gitmo needs to close and remaining dangerous inmates sent to Federal prison.

What did we do, as Bush 43 was 9-months into office, to deserve idiots flying planes into buildings?

Perhaps it was a previous president who did nothing but wag his finger? Perhaps that sign of weakness emboldened the terrorists?

No... Gitmo is just fine. It serves its purpose perfectly. These terrorists deserve to be housed exactly where they are.

You don't convict enemy combatants. They're on hold, POW's... hopefully until they rot.

But Obama seems to have weird sympathies for terrorists. Too bad he doesn't have the same concern for Americans.

Probably would have been easier to just put a round into the heads of these enemy combatants on the battlefield than to have captured them, clothed them, fed them, housed them....etc. We know that nearly 75% of them will return to the fight when released, meaning they will continue to try to kill US Soldiers and Marines.

My feeling is the President is going to return GITMO to his new Cuban friends. I wonder if he plans on retiring there (Cuba). Maybe we will have a Presidential Library in Havana?!!!

I disagreed with Bush 2 on many things, including the Iraqi war. The man was still the President and therefore deserves the respect that goes with title. I was raised military and served 20 years, I don't have to like the guy but I will follow prders and show him/her the appropriate respect. The venom that spouts from those who dislike the current guy in the job borders on hysteria. It is rather immature and proves that if you have nothing but hate to bring to the table perhaps you should have stayed at home. I believe they would benefit from a support group, kind of like there own safe zone. Oh wait, perhaps there already is, Tea Party anyone?

Ah the Cold War ended in 1990 as did most USSR military support to Castro The restrictions on Cuba are long overdue to be revised. In what fashion those revisions take is open to opinions, it does not detract that the situation needed addressing.

An issue I became involved with after the military, once I learnt the history and deceit perpetrated to mislead the American citizens for political and monetary gain, I got some common sense real fast and dumped a large portion of my partisan crap, and I feel lots better
