If you check their website, it was created as a monitoring system for right-wing talk shows( I don't want to really call them conservative talk shows ), and rightwing media.
When you google mediamatters, this is the opening line which tells you all you need to know Quote: |

| It has nothing to do with holding all media responsible, just certain media, which means it probably has agenda wouldn't you think???

Is it an agenda or is it a focus? |

Apparently Democracy Alliance, which is finded by George Soros, funds media Matters. I didn't want to refute the source based off of that, because you know, the inevitable ad hominem comments... but if it looks like a duck. |

At best its a circular argument when you get into whose source said what. Really gets nobody anywhere. You were wise to not enter that fray.
For me the best way to look at something is to internalize it, and if it makes sense to you, research it further. All media (right, left,MSM) is suspect, because IMO objective journalism is out the window, and subjective journalism has replaced it. Its better to consider the validity of a story and verify it, rather than blindly accept what your brand of media tells you is happening.
The fact that mediamatters continually keeps a steady eye on right-wing media, to me means they have an agenda. Just like right-wing media has an agenda with the MSM. If you are arguing with someone who uses agenda driven sources, then its fruitless because their minds are usually made up for them by their source.
I don't care for Rush, but he went high school bully on mediamatters and the senators that signed this declaration. He pantsed them, gave them a wedgie, then took them in the bathroom and gave them a swirlie. And he was justified in doing so. They terribly misrepresented him on this one.............. |

I try to reference and cross reference claims made by all sources. The best way I have found for this, which isn't a 100 percent perfect, is to watch CNN, Fox, MSN and listen to NPR. I figure that way I get all the biases and misrepresentations and can discern the real truth being somewhere in the middle.
I don't listen to Rush, but now knowing the facts it appears he was right on this one and it's quite disgusting watching politicians taking a **** on the 1st Amendment. |

I've always wanted to post what I thought of these guys, here seems appropriate.
So whenever I go on calls with him I have to listen to it. My opinion is that Rush is an entertainer first, and a political commentator second. He is an arrogant S.O.B., but he stumbled onto something and capitalized on it and makes a good living at it. I don't begrudge him much, but he's not nearly as smart or funny as he thinks.
Hannity is a very supportive guy, in regards for troops and their families, but his voice drives me crazy. Its like nails on a chalkboard for me. Otherwise he's a FOX news pundit, so that pretty much sums up how he is going to report things.
Savage is a strange one for me. First off, the guy is bat**** mad about just about anything. After about 15 minutes, he can ruin a good day and put you in a sour mood. But he really seems like an independent voice, and he seems to think things through in his own head. He really makes good points about the media and the government, but he goes off his kilter about social issues. This guy has a tremendous radio voice though. Best voice I have ever heard on the radio, period. I studied vocal technique as a part of my music major in college, and I take notice of peoples voices just out of habit. His is great..... |

Hannity comes off a little less abrasive, mainly because he is fairly good at feinging objectivity at times, but he is still a partisan hack in the end.
Savage is a another beast alltogether. I listen to him for a good laugh, yet not everything he says is without merit, and i truly believe he is an independent. As much as he bashes and criticises liberals, I have heard him do the same with Bush and republicans as well.
He's definitely a step up from Randi Rhodes, who for all intents and purposes, is just not funny. |

Lean: Conservative Gender: Awards: | Re: Rush Announces eBay Charity Auction of Harry Reid's Letter I think you're spot on with Rush being an entertainer first and a political commentator second...and I think HE realizes that as well. I think a lot of the ego and arrogance is more to do with the "Rush Limbaugh" persona that has came out of his show now then possibly the actual him...if that makes any sense. Don't doubt he's still got a bit of an ego...but I imagine him basically tuning it up a lot more than it really is due to the personality he portrays on the radio.
Hannity...I don't know, he grates on me. Where as Rush can try and put humor in and switches between things somewhat quickly, Hannity just seems like a 3 hour blather fest on a singular issue splattered with "Right and wrong not left and right" and other annoying lines that just kind of irritate me with him.
I will listen to Savage occasionally for...well, the same reason as the above stated...for a laugh. I will agree, he has a great radio voice (And music...woo metallica) and its always interesting cause he seems to go after everyone recently...but at the same time, the man's a nut job. Thankfully, its a humorous nut job at times...and what's scary is rarely, very rarely, he actually makes an astoundingly GOOD point. But generally, I listen to him to laugh at his rants much like I go to the Daily KOS sometimes to read the insane rantings of hatred they sometimes have |
