Apparently he sexually abused a man when he was a teacher and coach and that was the reason for the hush-money.

It doesn't bother me, but there nowhere in this article that says he is Republican.

Ex-House Speaker Dennis Hastert Will Plead Guilty in Hush-Money Case - NBC News

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert plans to plead guilty in his hush-money case to resolve charges he lied to the FBI about bank withdrawals — money allegedly used as payoffs to keep sexual misconduct accusations under wraps.

The politician, who was not in the Chicago federal courtroom where the agreement was announced Thursday, will appear on Oct. 28 to enter a plea, assuming the deal does not fall through, his attorney said.

It's unclear whether the deal calls for Hastert, 73, to serve prison time. It will, however, let him avoid an embarrassing public trial with new details of his alleged misdeeds as a high-school wrestling coach in the 1960s and '70s.

It's not the 'crime' that got him, it's the cover-up, eh?

Mighty sad.

From what I knew about the case I thought he was covering up for someone else. I didn't know Hastert was directly involved.

Of course it makes sense that the GOP put him in a leadership position.

When he was installed as Speaker no one knew about this.

He often bragged about it in private and that's why he was selected to a leadership role. That was the appeal he had among Republicans.

I have never read anything about him bragging about sexual abuse of a younger male.

You have GOT to be kidding! No way No how would the CONs KNOWINGLY elect a Speaker who bragged about molesting minors... :doh

I don't like CONs at all but I do know molesters don't 'appeal' to them...

Figures he would duck out, personal responsibility strikes again... Now all we need are a chorus of 'how biased the media is coz his party is all anyone refers to him by' CON harpies.... :peace

If the accusations are true, I hope he gets prison time.

Oh please. You CAN'T get elected the GOP speaker without having a sexual scandal.

4John Boehner

It is rumored that John Boehner, the new Speaker of the House and married father of two, had an alleged affair with lobbyist Lisbeth Lyons. In addition, he is also being accused of having an affair with Leigh LaMora, a press secretary to ex-Colorado Congressman Joel Hefley. But, it's important to keep in mind that these allegations are rumors at this point, but time will tell.
And let's not forget Gingrich.

That's the problem Republicans have right now. They don't have any credible people with any sexual scandals. They're getting so desperate they might nominate Bill Cosby.

Oh please indeed... one thing to snicker about getting some 'strange' on the side... another to engage in homosexual activities with minors- then brag about that to your fellow CONS... :doh

I don't recall Newt or Boehner ever whooping it up recounting raping young boys before running for office.... seriously, I don't think a boy raper would be allowed to serve much less be speaker. (it does appear the front runner McCarthy pulled out (so to speak) when rumors of an affair (with a woman) came up so I'd say knowing the candidates raped boys would have been a deal breaker.... :peace

He plead guilty to avoid dragging it all out in public. Be interesting to see if he was willing to agree to jail time to avoid the disgrace of a public trial... (I hope so)

I wasn't talking about homosexual pedophelia...I said sexual scandal.

McCarthy CAN'T get the job because the allegations were false. If they were true he'd have been nominated by now.

You claim Hastert bragged about 'it', raping young boys, in 'private' which must mean in the company of fellow CONs if that is why he was selected for a leadership role...

So yeah, ya was talking about pedophiles, boy rape, and CONs knowing all of that before voting....
