Ah, I'm 100% with you here, winston. There no longer is any pretense, even, at "journalistic ethics". I have to read at least three papers if I really want a complete view of any story. In fact, to be totally honest, I usually get the whole picture (as much as that is possible) from a reasonably well-argued thread on DP or some other message board.
I can remember Edward R. Murrow and Walter Chronkite, and I find this loss horribly annoying. I used to be able to know the news in less than an hour. Now it takes me longer than some of my college term papers did to research and write.

I never meant to lump you in with everyone who is attacking Rush. I was just answering your questions in your OP. Please accept my apologies. (and please don't sue...I can't afford it.)
No, I see this tactic as coming from a higher level than you and your friends. It's the liberal media, liberal talkers (Maddow, etc.) and even liberal politicians (Pelosi, etc.) who are trying to deflect the nation's attention from issues that really matter.
As far as GOP using the same tactics, I just don't see it...at least on a national level. Take the Republican candidates, for example...except for their in-fighting, I've really only seen them dealing with the main issues: Jobs, reducing spending and so on. Heck, I don't even think they would be talking about abortion if the media didn't bring it up.
