Gender: | The Vice President Debate The first VP debate just completed. I thought both candidates spoke very well. For those concerned about which Sarah Palin would show up, no worry as the one that gave the well received convention speech showed up in great command speaking with confidence. Joe Biden spoke with his characteristic relaxed senatorial style excellently presenting his points. Both sides made some good points and I know the pundits and analysts will be discussing all that for days. One thing I did notice was Palin tended to veer off from directed question and answered her talking points. That has alot to do with the fact the Bush adminstration and Republicans have alot to defend and would rather not have to discuss those failures in short 90 second explanations. And Biden tended to go back to the economy criticizing everything Republicans have wrought. Well done folks and I hope another will be scheduled!

Lean: Very Liberal | Re: The Vice President Debate I think it is very difficult for me to determine the winner of tonight. I think they were both even, more so than the first Prez debate.
I agree most with Geraldine Ferraro's comment. Palin really proved that women can some toe-to-toe with men when it comes to national executive government.
I think if I had to make a decision, Palin was a bit better overall. Even though I'm liberal and still voting Obama/Biden, I really think Palin blew everyone away, and did very well. |

Current Mood: | Re: The Vice President Debate First and foremost, I thought that Ifill did a great job as moderator, quashing any suspicion that she would be partisan. There was absolutely no sign of that.
I think Sarah performed better than expected, as there was no doubt she did an excellent job of preparation. Having said that, she avoided quite a few answers and seems to go back to practiced responses. At times she seemed insincere, plastic, and nervous, especially at the beginning.
Unfortunately for Palin/McCain, Biden also performed well. In fact, I though he pretty much hit a grand slam. I got a bit tired of the "John McCain did this and that," but I guess he had to get that point across.
Regardless, I doubt this debate will affect much anyway. Now onto the talking heads that will rate this debate to death.
Oh, just one other thing. Am I the only one who thinks Palin way of speaking is directly out of the movie, Fargo? LOL

Awards: | Re: The Vice President Debate Agreed. All of the above.
Except the "grand slam"--I tend to think it was a very even match. Some things, Palin nailed, and Biden demonstrated more experience.
I do love that Palin pointed out the backward looking of the O/B ticket and the forward looking of the M/P ticket.

It is one of my favorite images I ever made. |

Lean: Very Liberal | Re: The Vice President Debate Palin never brought up any counter to the Biden attack that the M/P ticket will be much like the Bush admin. She refuesd to answer many other questions too. But that is a good deceptive technique during debates. |

Palin did nothing to distance the ticket from that tonight.

I wonder if that is really the way she talks or she's just trying to be cute and folks? Hopefully the latter.

"There you go, looking back at the past..." | I didn't catch how she countered him by demonstrating how McCain's policies are materially different in terms of tax, economy, foreign policy. |
