The part that you highlighted was a portion of the article that referenced what he said yesterday, and in a complete 180 he's saying the exact opposite today.

McCain's reaction yesterday was a on short notice without all the facts. McCain is also well known for playing nice as a general rule.

Today, his comments were slightly more aggressive against Ifill, because he had more facts at hand and it is blatantly obvious Ifill is a conflicted and poor choice as a Moderator of this debate.
