TED,
Who hasn't delighted in any of that BS, thank-you-very-much.
Making a generalization, TED. The hypocrisy around here oozes. If you're not engaged in it, good for you!

Okay, well, you said it in reply to me, so.

Since your comment wasn't directed at me, how about you direct a comment my way?

It seems to me that he was charging his supporters to go out and engage people. Granted, "get in their face" could have been worded differently but looking at the clip, it seems to me that Obama was saying "there's work to be done and we (collective) need to do it.

or........just look at my signature for a better understanding of where I think he was going with this.

I'll watch the video later (I can't see it from here) and decide what I think, but judging from what you wrote, I'm not going to like it. It doesn't sound like he was joking around. What could he have been thinking?

It's more than just nasty politics IMO--he's encouraging civil unrest with statements like that. Not smart IMO. I can just see it now: Someone takes this charge too far and then... "Well, Obama told me to get in his face--he didn't say my neighbor might cold-cock me one for it!"
I don't like the sound of this wording at all. To me, that kind of thing should be beneath him. I reserve my full assessment to seeing his delivery.

I do not think it's reasonable to suggest to millions that they argue with their neighbor and get in their face about anything. I think it's damn stupid.

I think he listened to the polls that told him to get tougher.

He's not screaming at them to whip them into a fury, but it is serious and a stupid thing to say.

How do you figure?

We (as in, we the members of this forum) do it all the time here, metaphorically, and nobody gets hurt. Much.

So you think it's a wise thing to say? Obviously, if you think anything very productive really comes out of these internet exchanges on politics, you're reading threads I'm not. All I see is a general decline in civility and divisiveness where the lines of division are more clearly delineated with every post.

Re: Get in their face!

I think it's a brilliant thing to say. I think that anyone who is not clouded by partisanism will see that he is speaking metaphorically, especially because of his delivery of the line. He was not angry nor aggessive. He was unemotional when he said it.

He's giving credit to his Base's intelligence by assuming they are not metally handicapped and thus, they can tell the difference between a literal request and a metaphorical one.

EDIT: I'll leave it up to you all to decide if that credit is unfounded or not.

I tend to think he was expecting adults to follow his advice with the wisdom of, well, adults.
