Current Mood: | Re: CNN Fact Checks McCain: Verdict He's Not Telling Truth She was for the bridge to no where; she never visited Ireland accept for a stop over in the airport; she may have been to a road crossing to Iraq depending on who you ask - Alaskan national guard said she was never there; 20% of the nations energy?
Yet, their campaign continues to say these lies over and over and over again so as to butter it up? Or to pretend they aren't lying?
What's amazing is that we know these are all lies, the lies were all revealed within 24hours of her making each of them yet the campaign continues to get away with it over and over.
I thought republicans have been begging for honest government - is it not the least bit obvious to republicans that their candidate is lying big time? Do they not realize they are being played as fools?
Apparently it seems that republican supporters only see all these reports and fact checks as partisan attacks with no basis whatsoever and refuse to accept them as factual. Rather sad really, for if they just open their eyes a bit and take away all the bull**** they are being fed they'd realize of what fools they are being played as.
I don't understand how republicans can knowingly support a candidate that flat out lies over and over and over even when debunked - keep on lying - sad. |

Obama and sex education: Quote: |
But the legislation was not Obama's, it never became law and it would have required age-appropriate information in schools. Obama has said that means warning young children about sexual predators and explaining concepts like "good touch and bad touch."

Palin & The Bridge to Nowhere: Quote: |
THE FACTS: Palin did abandon plans to build the nearly $400 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport. But she made her decision after the project had become an embarrassment to the state, after federal dollars for the project were pulled back and diverted to other uses in Alaska, and after she had appeared to support the bridge during her campaign for governor.

Palin & Earmarks: Quote:
_ While she was mayor of the small town of Wasilla, Alaska, Palin hired a lobbyist to seek federal money for special projects. Wasilla obtained 14 earmarks, totaling $27 million, between 2000-2003, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog group that monitors federal spending.
_ As governor, Palin has asked for 31 earmarks worth $197 million for the 2009 fiscal year. State budget documents show that the state requested 52 earmarks worth $256 million for the 2008 budget year.
Appearing on the ABC television show "The View," McCain was pressed on her record of seeking such targeted money for Alaska. "Not as governor she didn't," McCain said.

Alaska Produces 20% of US Energy: Quote:
THE FACTS: The statements are exaggerated, some wildly so, according to figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The most recent figures show Alaska produced 3.4 percent of the nation's total energy output in 2005. The state's largest contribution to that figure was its oil production, which runs about 14 percent of the U.S. total. Alaska contributes about 2 percent of the nation's natural gas production. It produces negligible amounts of coal and renewable energy, and has no nuclear energy.

Palin visited Iraq & Ireland: Quote:
Following her selection last month as John McCain's running mate, aides said Palin had traveled to Ireland, Germany, Kuwait, and Iraq to meet with members of the Alaska National Guard. During that trip she was said to have visited a "military outpost" inside Iraq. The campaign has since repeated that Palin's foreign travel included an excursion into the Iraq battle zone.
But she did not venture into Iraq, Osborn said. "You have to have permission to go into a lot of areas, and [the crossing] is where her permissions were," he said.

| Palin camp clarifies extent of Iraq trip - The Boston Globe | I haven't had time to examine each story, but over the past weekend I did look into this one. I asked anyone in another thread to produce any direct quote from either Palin or McCain in which they stipulated that Palin had visited Iraq. No one could. Because such a quote doesn't exist.
Aides did get it wrong - and in examining the sequence of events I can easily understand how this error came about. Palin was indeed scheduled to visit with Alaskan NG troops inside Iraq. At the Iraq/Kuwait border checkpoint however, it was discovered that Palin lacked the requisite Iraqi/Coalition paperwork necessary to cross the border into Iraq. Thus, she could not fulfill her scheduled itinerary in this regard. In her ABC interview with Charlie Gibson, Palin speaks of her trip to Kuwait but never does she claim or even intimate that she stepped foot in Iraq.
I think many of you folks should be ashamed of yourselves for concentrating so much of your efforts and energies on sleaze and fluff when there is so much more at stake in regards to the core issue differences between the two candidates. When all is said and done in November, one of the two camps here at DP will complain bitterly that their candidate could have won if only more time had been devoted to what was really important. Just my opinion. |

Instead of outright bashing the other side right away, actually take the time to listen to what they have to say. I know it may be hard for some people to listen to someone who has a different letter after their name ( R or D) but it is worth it to open your mind to something different. What you may not agree with may actually be better for your country in the long run. Don't be too stubborn to open your mind and give someone else a chance. I myself have yet to decide who I will vote for. I have not seen one debate yet and am trying very hard to not listen to any of the mudslinging that is being thrown daily.
Yes, maybe McCain is not telling the truth about somethings but ten to one you can find out the same untruths about Obama. |

If we accept that they are both liars all we have to go on is the letter next to their name? I mean, how do we know when they are being honest?
