In order to "save" our state's budget Governor Patterson has decided to cut $1 billion from the budget.

True, but it still has to pass the Senate (which has a good shot since its a Republican majority) but the Assembly is a different story.

If your serious, your the only democrat I know thats against the teacher's union.

anyways, looks liek I break away from modern conservativism as well. Teachers are paid poorly.

I totally agree with you here. I'm glad somebody on the other side of the fence sees what I see with the teacher's unions. Just validates my opinion of them.

Teachers just need higher wages IMO. Over here in texas, especially in middle-school, they are paid paltry.

Right now the national average of teaching salarie are ~47,000 dollars. Which is good, its higher than expected. I say if its raised to 50-55k, we won't even need a teacher's union.

if a teacher is having trouble teaching, give the school more money so that they can for a limited time. If teaching improves, let them keep the money. IF there is no improvement within say, a 6months-year, punish them by withdrawing funding.
