GOP leaders request special session
Every House Republican leader has signed a letter today calling on Speaker Nancy Pelosi to open a special session of the House to deal with the oil price crisis.
Pelosi is highly unlikely to cave in to this request as House Republicans open their fifth day in a row taking her name in vain and giving floor speeches during a fake session of the House.
In the letter, Republican leaders ask Pelosi to "reconvene the House and allow a vote on a comprehensive, common-sense approach to reducing the price of energy."

GOP leaders request special session

She has her view (anti-offshore drilling) and is using her power to make sure that it doesn't happen. This is the benefit of being in power.
It just sucks to be on the other side of her. Personally, I believe that it should be up to the states where the off-shore drilling would be happening and not up to congress. Pelosi disagrees with that and is using her position as speaker of the house to let it remain unchallenged.
This isn't the first time this has happened in Congress and it has happened with Republicans blocking votes as well. It's politicking at its most Roberts Rules of Orderiest. | |
