Political Gifts that Keep on Giving - They Cross Party Lines; Today's Republicrats

You know, a lot of people have been bashing the crap out of Bush for what he has done since he has been in office, and I ought to know, since I am one of them.

However, where did Bush's overstepping of the Federal government upon individual rights start?

I know, I know, some of you are going to say "Keep Clinton out of it. He hasn't been the president in years, so it is not his fault". To the contrary, where do you think the Patriot Act come from? It was only an extension of Clinton's antiterrorism law. What about the Bush administration's penchant for pushing for all the media to be owned by a few corporations? That didn't start with Bush either. Want to take a guess? Yup, Clinton again, via his telecommunications act. I could go on, but you get the picture.

So what do I hear today? Democrats screaming that Bush is usurping American rights, and how they plan to do something about it. OK, fair enough. That is what got them elected. So what did they do? They passed a bill that allows the president, on his word alone, and without any evidence whatsoever, to imprison American citizens, without access to lawyers, and even their own families. How about the telcos, which engaged in illegal spying for Bush? They let them off the hook. Again, I could go on, but once again, I am sure you get the picture.

Fact is Democrats gave to Republicans, and Republicans are giving back to Democrats. It is no secret that, barring some political catastrophe, Obama is going to be our next president, and what do you think the Democrats will do, once they own the entire legislative and executive branches? They will say, thank you, Mr. Bush for the gift, as Bush most likely thanked Clinton for his own gift.

Face it, America. The 2 major parties are playing ping pong with your balls, and the sooner you wake up, the sooner Democrats and Republicans, now known as Republicrats, will begin to respect you. After all, if their own jobs are on the line, they will damn well sing a different tune. Our forefathers put the American people in charge, not a few elitist politicians. And as they also said, "People should never be afraid of their government. Government should be afraid of its people".

So much for my rant - As Reagan used to say on his weekly radio spot, before he became president, "Thanks for listening".

Nothing will change, why? because all too many of the public is caught up in partisan quibble. It's all the GOP's fault! It's all the GOD DAMN ****ING LIBERALS FAULT yada yada. That account for at least 30% of the populous, then we have 20% that are apathetic and then the remaining 50% don't agree with each other on all these wedge issues that both parties love sticking us with.

Obama has already shown what he thinks about individual liberties and freedoms when voting for the immunity of FISA. I hope that it's not the face of things to come but have my reservations.

I, for the most part, agree with all of this, but I don't know what the answer is. Sure, I have a Bob Barr 08 link in my signature... but even if Libertarians starting winning seats in congress would anything really change? Or would it be 1994 all over again. Young, eager conservatives get a strong voting block in Washington, which lasts about 1.5 years, until it's time to get re-elected.

So yeah, I don't know what the answer to the problem is.
