Lean: Conservative Gender: Awards: | Hooray for no choice I'm completely disheartened by the political race this year.
To begin with, I'm not a huge fan of Bush. I can't stand No Child Left Behind. Creating an entire new branch of government was unneeded. Spending has skyrocketed. Attempting to take away peoples rights in the constitution instead of guaranteeing them. Nation Building. Amnesty and poor boarder enforcement. Further handouts from the government with the prescription drug plan. This just to name a few.
The tax cuts were good, the nominations to the supreme court were good, and there's things concerning the war I approve of. But so much of his presidency has been horrible in my eyes.
So we move forward
On one side, we have Barack Obama. The vast majority of what I dislike about George Bush, Obama is likely to not just not be better...but be worse.
More government intervention into state issues of schools? Probably.
Expanding government? With nationalized health care, yep.
Skyrocketing spending? With the health care system and undoubtedly other liberal/socialist like programs probably. In the short term possibly not as he severely cuts the military, but the social programs he'll have pushed in will never be vanishing where as the military thing is a short term change.
Nation Building? Hard to say, though I could see Darfur going this route.
Amnesty and poor boarder enforcement, expecting more of the same.
Further government hand outs? Yep.
Add on top of that dozens of liberal ideals that I don't agree with being pushed through...even stricter restrictions on the 2nd amendment, further restrictions on private industry regarding smoking or ingredients for food, further restrictions on fuel, cars, and other such things. Increased taxes on top of this.
Then we have McCain.
McCain basically goes right along with just about everything I dislike about Bush. The one thing he may do a better job against is pork, yet at the same time he'll be even worse than Bush in regards to immigration. Not to mention his constant desire to compromise makes me unbelieving in his desire to put in multiple strict constructionist judges if that comes up.
People keep telling us "Just vote for him because he's better than Obama, THEN you'll get a real conservative."
Really?
Because last time I heard that, it was Bush running on his second term.
Guess what we got.
John McCain.
By voting in John McCain we further take the party to the left, further destroy true conservative with this liberalism in republican clothing of "compassionate conservativism" and other such things, and lose our chance to see a real leader with our ideals for years.
So yay! For the next months if we speak against Obama we'll hear "Well, it sucks with Bush" without people realizing that that doesn't mean its not ALSO going to be bad with Obama. When we speak against McCain, we'll hear how we're just "Helping Obama" and we're "children".
And either way, for at least the next 4 years, we get another great span of time with crap policies, crap spending, and crap government.
I'm so excited.
Hooray

Otherwise, I would have to agree with most of your comments, the Republicans/Conservatives are going to be having a real hard time with their voting decisions this year (good, for us liberals). However I'd like to point out that in the end, presidents suck. I can't think of one yet that didn't disappoint after getting into office. I fear them's just the facts, man. |

If you don't like what the Republicans are becoming don't vote for the party that represents where the Republicans are headed. |

I see nobody worth voting for. | Not even a 3rd party candidate like Chuck Baldwin or Bob Barr? I mean, they seem fairly close to your beliefs. |
