Bush may be in office for another 1-3 years and heres why:

If Hillary proceeds with the courts about counting Florida and Michigans votes (which Obamas name is not even listed on the ballots there) it could possibly take many months or even years to decide that.

Of all the far-fetched theories about how Bush may somehow retain the presidency, this is one of the least likely.

Plus I'd have to kill myself.

That is not what I am worried about. On May 9, 2007, Bush issued an executive order which would allow him to suspend elections, in case of a national emergency.

Suppose there is a terrorist attack this October - Would Bush then suspend the elections "for the good of the nation"? If he did, how long would he suspend them for? If, as he says, we are in a war that could last many years, there is technically a possibility that Bush could remain president for a while longer, that is, until he is impeached and thrown out of office. I don't even see avid Bush supporters on his side with this one, which is why nothing will probably happen, even if there IS a terrorist attack before the election. However, The May 9, 2007 directive is bone chilling, and if not for Bush's lousy approval ratings, I would be a little uneasy about it.

I think it makes sense to allow for a suspension in the case of an emergency, but there needs to be some kind of check/balance on it. Maybe the president could issue that order, and if a majority of the Supreme Court agrees that an emergency exists, then it would be postponed for a couple weeks.

It's definitely a good idea to have some kind of a contingency plan in place. Suppose there was a 9/11 a few hours before the polls opened on Election Day, or one of the presidential candidates was assassinated. It wouldn't make sense to expect people to vote under those circumstances.

I think that Congress should have a say before the USSC. It's not the USSC's jurisdiction.

Edit: Also, they would still have two and a half months before inauguration. Bush couldn't go more than two years extra. But they should be able to hold an election in 2 1/2 months.
